  1. Deadline: Ahead of its U.S. debut, the latest chapter in the Terminator franchise, Terminator: Genisys, grossed $8.3M from 1,277 locations in 10 smaller territories this weekend. The start is 29% above 2009’s Terminator: Salvation and 6% below Mission; Impossible – Ghost Protocol. This initial rollout included some Scandinavian markets as well as Latin American and Asian territories. A strong start and a reminder of the franchise's potential overseas.
  2. What do you all think Terminator Genisys could do in China? If it gets released (and I believe it will) and if it gets a decent release date. $100M a safe bet?
  3. $380M OS. Overall I see this doing: $50M OW $165M Domestic Total $120M China $90M rest of Asia $545M Worldwide
  4. Mr. Popper's Penguins $187M worldwide, $119M foreign A Christmas Carol $325M worldwide, $187M foreign Yes Man $223M worldwide, $125M foreign. Kick-ass 2 or Burt Wonderstone I don't consider Jim Carrey movies, since he only had glorified cameos in both of them. Allthough I admit I was shocked how big of a bomb Wonderstone turned out to be considering the cast. The right project starring Jim Carrey is still pretty much guaranteed to do $100M+ overseas, even a turd like that penguin movie made $120M overseas. Carrey is still a huge beloved star all over the world. Jim Carrey's supposed "fall from grace" or "career freefall" is so over exaggerated. What happened was he took three years off to paint or something, and he probably did those two cameos just for fun or to please his agent or as a favor, who knows. But he's back now, and DDT will end up with $200M+ worldwide easily, and if he chooses his next project carefully that too will be a hit, mark my words.
  5. I believe Dumb and Dumber To will be a big hit all over the world. Many underestimate the power Carrey still has overseas, even his lesser movies like Mr. Popper's Penguins and Yes Man both grossed around $120M foreign. Incidentally, the first Dumb and Dumber grossed $120M overseas as well, pretty close to its domestic take of $127M, so it was definitely a worldwide hit right from the beginning, and it has only gotten bigger with home video and TV over the years. I will be shocked if DDT doesn't clear $100M foreign, $200M worldwide is a lock IMO. I also think that many were quick to write Carrey off as box-office poison after Wonderstone and Kick-Ass 2, but I wouldn't even count either of them as Jim Carrey movies, he has a glorified cameo in both, and in both he is playing an over the top character with heavy make-up and wigs etc. I know people who didn't have an idea it was him in Kick-ass 2 because the character looked so different. That Penguin movie made $187M worldwide on a $55M budget, not a huge blockbuster hit, but they were likely profitable once it hit DVD.
  6. Come on, DDT! Get to $40M! $100M+ domestic, Jim Carrey's back bitches!
  7. Do you have any source for that? Since I find that number to be unrealistic. According to Imdb Keanu got $10M + 10% of the gross for the first Matrix, and $15M + 15% of the gross for each of the sequels. I don't know if that means he got percentage of the gross just from domestic, or from foreign too. However I counted his upfront salaries and percentage of the worldwide gross, and got $260M, from all three movies. Out of that he would of course have to pay his management, agent, and taxes. So he might end up with "just" over $100M. Again, that's just simplistic math, in reality it's very much possible that his gross profit deal had certain stipulations in it that prevented him from getting that much. I have also read conflicting reports on him giving money to the crew. Some reports say that he gave some stunt guys motorcycles, another one says that he gave the visual effects team millions of dollars, however that hasn't been confirmed anywhere so those seem to be just rumours. I have read on VFX forums where some of the artists who worked on the Matrix films wrote that they haven't gotten any money or gifts from Keanu, and haven't heard of anyone else getting anything either. I like Keanu and think he's a good guy, but I think this story of him being charitable with the crew has been widely exaggerated and misconstrued on the internet. I find it very hard to believe that he would have given the crew tens of millions of dollars, without there being any evidence or even first hand comments from the crew members. Just rumours.
  8. Actually it was Nu-Image/Millennium Films who produced the movie and sold all the foreign rights. Lionsgate only distribute in the US and the UK, they didn't have any part in producing the movie or selling foreign rights. Even though the numbers have been dissapointing, EX3 is doing similar numbers to EX1 in many countries, even better than both previous movies in some places, so after the dust has settled and all the worldwide numbers are in, it might not look that bad if it can gross over $200M. I think Millennium could produce and sell a fourth one, but they might have to do it cheaper.
  9. Lionsgate is only distributing in the US and the UK, a different company is the distributor in Russia.
  10. What does everyone here think Expendables 3 will gross? Based on the grosses of the first two movies and Escape Plan, I believe it has a chance of making it close to the $100M mark.
  11. Any updated overseas numbers? Also does anyone know if this will get released in Russia and China?
