As an Academy member told us, the Academy is telling the animation branch that it no longer trusts them to nominate animated features.
— Cartoon Brew (@cartoonbrew) June 29, 2017Starting this year, the majority of people selecting nominees for the Feature Animation Oscar no longer have to be from the animation branch
— Cartoon Brew (@cartoonbrew) June 29, 2017It's unprecedented—imagine telling the costume designers that the rest of the Academy is better qualified than they are to judge costumes.

Kristopher Tapley's Midway Oscar forecast is up, and while most of it is just "here's the contenders," there's a nice little trinket of info about Detroit.
QuoteWill Poulter is said to be the stand-out as a sadistic police officer, but John Boyega is called on to anchor the proceedings in lead.

Okay seriously, that's enough. Nobody likes giant bold, and nobody likes seeing the same joke repeated again and again. It's a bitch to scroll down on just my laptop. Can't imagine how it is on mobile. You two are the only people who still think it's funny. Stop for the benefit of everyone.

Despite its problems, #Valerian needs to be experienced in 3D on the biggest screen possible. I want to experience more of this world.
— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) June 29, 2017#Valerian: Inventive world-building and some awesomely unique set pieces. Runs out of steam eventually, but overall a fun, worthwhile romp.
— Angie J. Han (@ajhan) June 29, 2017#Valerian embargo is up. I really liked it. A fun, visually stunning sci-fi adventure. We need more space operas that are this colorful.
— michelle buchman (@michelledeidre) June 29, 2017Dug opening sequence of #Valerian, has amazing 3D look. Flavor of FIFTH ELEMENT but not the same payoff. Luc Besson fans are gonna luv it.

#Valerian is the batsh*t kinda sci-fi, stuffed w/ wildly colorful & inventive sequences. Story is OK but some of the action blew my mind ? pic.twitter.com/WMSz1dZcoA

Sony-TriStar/Media Rights Capital’s Baby Driver is heading toward an opening day in the low to mid $5M range as of this minute. With evening shows occurring on the East Coast currently, and West Coast business yet to click, we could see a slightly higher figure tomorrow morning.

Why does the CGI look like a PS1 game?

Also of note:
Even to this day, over 27 years later, Home Alone is still the highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time, both domestic and worldwide. (Well, unless you count Iron Man 3 as a Christmas movie. )
Regardless, it's amazing how the film is still the victor even after years of other competitors.
