  4. A good part of it might have to do with marketing. Say what you will about the trailer, but it definitely hooked audiences and made the film seem fun and a must-see. Beasts' trailers, at least to me, were just kinda average and nothing special. The only hook that it had was that it had more Potter iconography, which arguably might have limited its appeal than enhanced it. If it weren't for the fact that my dad was a massive Potterhead, I probably wouldn't have seen it in the theater. Of course I'm saying this as someone who didn't care for the first Fantastic Beasts at all.
  5. It's really simple: money. Studios get a little profit to add into their totals, and movie theaters will generate higher traffic on a typically slow night. It's really no worse than opening at 7 on a Thursday. Though if Disney does this tactic with Episode IX while I'm busy with finals, I'm gonna fly to Burbank and fist fight Bob Iger.
  6. Us also seems like a movie that should have a trailer already. Get Out had its first trailer 4 months before the movie came out. Us will be out in 4 months, and we've got nothing. Of course, it's not really a movie that needs a trailer so far out, but still.
  7. Runtimes w/out credits and attachments for next week: Ralph Breaks the Internet: 1:40. Dumbo and both Toy Story 4 trailers are attachments (don't know if that means both trailers or the theater decides which one to play.) There's also a Thank You attached as well. Robin Hood: 1:44. Cold Pursuit and Five Feet Apart are attachments. Creed 2: 2:02. If Beale Street Could Talk, Vice, and The Prodigy are attachments. Surprised neither Hellboy and especially Chaos Walking aren't getting attached with Robin Hood.

  9. BEFORE ANYONE FREAKS OUT The East Coast is getting through a massive snowstorm. Theaters around me were forced to close down, and I believe that's the same throughout the coast. It's still not that great, but let's not panic until at least Sunday.
  10. And after just one quick check, my theater's closed up shop due to weather. I believe the 5 PM show for Beasts did go through, but I could be wrong.
  11. Fantastic Beasts 606 1764 34.01% Instant Family 36 1366 2.64% Widows 245 994 24.65% Beasts Comps: 66% of Ragnarok (81.5M) 56% of Solo (47.4M) 44% of JW2 (65.8M) 91% of Ant-Man and the Wasp (69.1M) 145% of M:I Fallout (88.6M) 86% of Venom (69.3M) A thing to keep in mind is my area got hit by a bad snowstorm today, so Thursday numbers will be deflated. There were even a few people who refunded their Thursday showings for that reason. Regardless, the Ant-Man and Venom ones seem like a pretty strong comparison here. Also FWIW, there's a pretty sizable jump from Friday to Saturday, so this could play like a family movie similar to the first Beasts Instant Family Comps: 45% of Game Night (7.6M) 55% of Blockers (11.4M) 86% of Tag (12.8M) 81% of Spy Who Dumped Me (9.9M) 33% of Crazy Rich Asians (8.7M) No beating around the bush. This is doing awful at my theater. They're really gonna regret putting it in the second-largest auditorium while Widows got the smallest. Speaking of... Widows Comps: 158% of Den of Thieves (24M) 57% of Breaking In (10.1M) 236% of Superfly (16.2M) 59% of Equalizer 2 (21.3M) 199% of BlacKkKlansman (21.6M) It would be amazing to see Widows at those numbers, but given my theater I have some doubts. Hoping it overperforms tho
  12. CYEFM? has an amazing cat actor, so go with that. The rest of the movie's really good too. One of those movies that gets better the more I think about it.
  13. Haven’t paid much attention to the “reports” or how a film like this is typically divided. Sorry
