Kind of right. The bigger issue is less Avatar and more Avatar swallowing up all the PLFs, so any other big movie would get the scraps. IMAX and Dolby is more important than ever and it's tricky for another movie to get into that headway when there's another movie that's going to dominate in those areas. Matrix Resurrections had a million things going against it, but coming out days after Spider-Man meant it got the short end of the stick for the premium screens, only getting like one or two a day while Spider-Man gobbled up everything else. You can argue Bumblebee, which was still a great success, had that issue too because of Aquaman. Moving Shazam out of Christmas was the right call, since it would probably suffer big time from the lack of IMAX and Dolby and 4DX. Everything else out this season are movies that people don't search for premium screens. The only ones that will maybe get a Dolby or 4DX in the early morning are Puss in Boots and I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and those movies have an audience that usually doesn't go for the premium screens.

The whole structure of the movie didn’t do anything for me. Has the issue anthology films usually have where some stories are dull and go on too long, or are engaging but don’t go on long enough. Then the final third goes into a random story detour and it’s like…why did I watch this? Oh well.

Not sure concept does anything. Beast and Moonfall and Northman opened to no1curr numbers, below most of the other ones you mentioned, and they had no big draws behind it, director or actor (for the record, I love all the stars in those movies, this is not a diss). That means something

Because there’s no big movie star in the center. The original movies/movies that don’t have a big IP attached to them that have opened huge all have big actors in the front and center. You could also make the argument for stuff like Woman King and even Crawdads (Reese Witherspoon got more promo as a producer than the actors in the movie), though those movies obviously didn’t have the openings of something like Bullet Train or Lost City. If Ryan Reynolds or Kevin Hart was the star or played Eichner’s co-lead, this would have cleared 15M+. Maybe even 20M. Sad but true

Some of the framerate stuff worked, other parts looked like the movie was on fast forward. Little annoying

I mean it probably would have done like 3M more? Like obviously more theaters help, but it doesn’t cause an extra 10M in gross like this. Tbh, the 3D was cool, but I honestly liked it when it was in 2D. It’s less distracting IMO, though it could be an issue of the HFR. It looked really weird at points tbh Gotta be honest, the “lol at all the haters saying it has no impact” is starting to lose its luster.

And they can’t go the next day? Or on Sunday? Or next week? If there is an audience that wants to see Strange World in theaters, they will go. And some random Disney+ movie won’t force somebody to stop, since that also can be watched at any time as well

Guys, you know that Disney fans can watch two movies over one weekend? Do you seriously believe the average Disney Adult is going to be like "gee golly willikers I sure am excited for Strange World. But uh-oh! Some random Disney+ movie is also coming out at that weekend. I guess I am now forced by law to not see a movie I was excited about in theaters because apparently I am only allowed to see one thing on a holiday weekend where I have way more free time." This is the same thing when people are all "OMG what if the Game of Thrones final season hurts Endgame's box office???????????"

I mean his only blockbusters are Dune (which he is great in and is arguably not his usual fare) and Wonka, which I have faith will be adorable. He is still doing excellent work in indies and dramas, and that's the majority of what he is still doing even after he found acclaim and success. That's a big risk, but he's still doing it.

I mean...James Cameron's always had corny dialogue in his movies. That's a very important part of his charms as a filmmaker

You laugh, but it is a little weird the lack of fanfic, if only because the Na’vi are tailor made for horny sickos. Neytiri as a character has like 30 fetishes built into one, and you’re telling me the Internet doesn’t have a million weird self-insert smut fanfics? It’s craziness!
