The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
Eric the Clown replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
Movie/Date Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Captain Marvel 6,647 8,737 10,157 10,232 11 days 10 days 9 days 8 days Us 148 181 188 215 25 days 24 days 23 days 22 days Read up on the archives here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q-1UceCRkSh3BraIvvm0XDJyoUJsyrq8oOufQvjP7Qk/edit#gid=2060184613 Captain Marvel from Day 17-Day 8 .452x of Black Panther (109.4M) As I said before, throughout the week, it's gone rom 83M to 92.1M to 100.8M to now 109.4M. Even more impressive is that CM saw a slight increase from Wednesday to Thursday, which Black Panther didn't have. I'll probably look into this later if demand is there, but while its ticket sales are lower than Black Panther, it seems to be having stronger holds and increases from day to day, which helps close the gap and shows there's strong interest here. -

Theater time Madea Family Funeral 901 1938 46.49% 190% of Acrimony (32.6M) 210% of Breaking In (37.1M) 208% of Night School (56.8M) 246% of Nobody's Fool (33.8M) 207% of What Men Want (37.8M) Maybe this could see an overperformance. Granted, this is based off a franchise instead of an original, but this outpacing these movies by a considerable margin is mad impressive. -

WB knows to be afraid of Disney. Not for Captain Marvel, but for Dumbo. They've already given up, knowing the world's love for baby elephants! (btw I don't think Dumbo will actually make more than Shazam. I just can't miss the opportunity to post baby elephant GIFs. Please don't start a debate/flame war with me) -

Probably about 20%. Judging from my own theater, as well as other anecdotes, hype is there, but not to to the all-time extremes that any of the top 10 OWs had. But there is an outside chance if release week sees a massive spike, if walk-ups are prominent, and/or if reviews are stellar. But right now, like @Nova I'm predicting O/U Hunger Games, give or take $10M. Hopefully give.
