Cgi is a lot better than what I was expecting that's for sure. Looks like mindless fun.
Yeah, CGI is much better than I was thinking.

It actually didn't look terrible. The music choice was bad though... Using the music hints from the first film was cool though. Idk...

Going with 50-60 Dom and 130-150 in China. Another 100-150 from other OS territories. I think LP/UNI win regardless of how the film looks.
NYCC panel can be watched live via collider in 20 minutes:

I am sure WB had a whole team dedicated to what went wrong with PR1's marketing. That one opened to 37+ and did 100+, while Godzilla opened to 93+. And PR1 imo was the better creature movie.
Honestly... Godzilla is Godzilla. But yes, the marketing for PR1 was pretty terrible. Makes you wonder why they greenlit the movie for almost a 200m budget if they weren't going to market it correctly.
The funny thing is, I bet overall PR2 will be more profitable.

Anyone know why they changed distributors from wb to universal? Just wondering.😊
Because Legendary switched from Warner Brothers to Universal. Godzilla and the MonsterVerse stayed with WB because of a deal.

It does not look that much worse than the cgi seen in Thor 3, Spiderman Homecoming, Justice League. The original tried its best to stay away from daylight scenes
This is what I hoping for at this point. This is obviously a downgrade from the first...like really low. At this point I can only hope the cgi I better than Power Rangers. Need to see the full trailer myself still.
The kaiju look really cool though.

Because 10% is pretty standard. Paramount only got 8-9% on the Marvel movies and DWA films for example.
Why would WB be listed as the main studio then? You'd think SONYs name would be all over this.

Understandable, I see that point. I'm not even a huge fan of the first one, and there are plenty of other sequels I would have rather had made by WB before this one that probably would have been cheaper.
A MV movie outside of Godzilla or Kong would have been cool. Are there any other monsters they could have used or would it have to be a new one from scratch? I just (vaguely) know what Universal owns regarding that.
The MV is actually a WB/LP thing. As far as another monster besides Godzilla or Kong, I'm sure theres something they could do.

Truth be told I had zero interest until John signed up so I'm mostly happy with this snippet so far, but even with the legit complaints about the robots, so far, from 2 seconds of footage, it looks pretty cartoonishly entertaining to me.
To me it's not that the movie can't be entertaining, it's more of what was the point? The first did nothing at the box office. LP could have gotten this same cast and done a low scale 75-100m MonsterVerse film to expand the universe theyre trying to get going more. That's another topic though.

Welp, with that small clip you can definitely tell the cgi won't be as slick as the first film. It looks somewhere in between Power Rangers and Pacific Rim 1 type of SFX.
Anyone want to guess the budget? Thinking 100m.

The robots seem to have no sense of mass or scale. At least the first film had clunky type robots, that would be the case with things this size.
This is my main concern with this film. You know the budget at max is like 100m for this. Worried the robots are going to look cartoony vs "clunky". The clunkyness is what I loved about the first one.

The only thing I'm worried about is the cgi looking too cartoony compared to the first. You know the budget was cut compared to the first.
Really looking to the trailer eliminating that fear.

Yeah, that's necessary fixing. Db- database, sun is shining, water is wet.
meant IMDb(it actually auto corrected) is not a true source.

IMDB has info: Universal is NA distributor, WB- overseas (except China, of course).
Is this true?

Will Shin Godzilla bleed over help Tohos new anime film GODZILLA: MONSTER PLANET reach at least 20m? I think that should be the goal for that film.

The scale of these Mechas etc. Is missing. Hopefully the trailer does not dissapoint.

I think some "flops" at the box office is still ok for studios. I think they already make enough money, but just want to expand their IP.

I think with IT killing at the box office, we might actually get a supernatural backstory on Pennywise. A bigger budget will obviously happen. I also think "The Turtle" will play a larger role compared to the book. I want the CRAZY back story on Pennywise and his arch nemesis, the Turtle. The old TV movie didn't really go into this... Want this to for sure.

I liked the movie but I didn't love it. It did a lot of things right but it also changed some things or just ignored too much for me to love it. I'd give it an 8/10 right now but that might go down tomorrow morning. I think as a movie, it was good but as a massive fan of the book, they just kept too much out of it.
It was scary and they did hit upon a lot of the disturbing stuff with the adults.
I completely understand what you're saying, but with it being a movie it's going to have stuff cut out.

WB really killed it this year. Lots of diverse films this films with great results.
IT only cost 35m to make...

Trying to catch this "evil thing" friday night.

Good bump for Apes on Friday, but yeah it looks like it may be a little bit too late.
Does it still have China? I think it needs at least 350m WW to have a shot at being financially ok.

WB is having a great year. I'm sure they wish they had another DC film for 2018 to keep this up. Next year will be pretty meh for them.

As soon as the "war" music played I knew this wasn't going to go over well.
