Kong won't make less than Pacific Rim. That would be nuts. I'm not saying it's going to be some major blockbuster, but it should hit at least 130 here. Something's wrong if a name brand monster movie like Kong makes less than Pacific Rim. Kong is a nice new take on the character set in the same universe as Godzilla.... For the sake of humanity, it's gotta at least perform decent enough. -
And besides, the MCU(not trying to start a war), has had films that made less than 400m and some that never hit 500m. You never throw away definite potential because one film in the universe didn't quite make as much as another. I see this hitting at least 400m worldwide

Lol...OK then. Overeacting if I've ever read one. It'll hit 100m... Between 130-150. It'll do fine, and this MonsterVerse is far from dead...

Which wouldn't be all that bad honestly. It'll get better reviews and WOM..... With that it'll push it to like 130-150m domestically, and over 400 worldwide.

It's getting plenty of praise from the people who have seen it. Once word gets out, it'll be fine. Movie looks too good(or fun) to not do decent... That and the fact there's early good word equals success I think.

I think it's overeacting a bit saying there's no hype. There's commercials, billboard's etc... They're doing it, it's just less noticeable because of Logan and BATB. They have that live q&a tomorrow with Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson AND tickets go live tomorrow as well. I think it'll do fine. I think a 40-50m opening would be decent.

I mean, this was a big weekend for the box office, but it is still February. I k ow Deadpool did huge, but February has never really been a great month overall. -

So what does WB and LP do now? This is the second movie of a planned 4 movie MonsterVerse(currently)... You don't just let it roll over and die. It's not like the movie looks bad.

There's no official confirmation the budget was 190m. I do agree, they need to up the marketing though.

Actually, this is a Legendary Pictures film. WB is just distributing. Anyway, the film looks good..... It'll be fine.

∆ Exactly... There hasn't been anything bad looking about the film. It looks good and clean. As long as marketing picks up it'll do fine making the minimum 400m worldwide.

∆ Wasn't that like way before they started shooting though? I'm not too sure how bad this could be since it's much more a heavy CGI action Kong film. As long as this hits 400m worldwide I'm sure things will be OK for the MonsterVerse. They'll make up the profit with merchandise, DVD/BD etc.

I don't recall production being halted or anything. They pretty well shot through the 3-4 months. The movie looks good.. so I'm just going to brush that aside.

I think the Godzilla brand is safe, but Kong Skull Island is worrying me that they won't go beyond Godzilla vs Kong in the MonsterVerse. Standalone films like Rodan and Mothra are definitely a question mark. That is if they wanted to expand beyond Godzilla and Kong. There's still plenty of time for this to pick up buzz with a month still to go. It's not like it looks bad.

Does Kong: Skull Island have a release date in China? I don't see anything about it on IMDb. Would be shocked if it didn't considering Wanda owns LP. -
Gotta believe this will do decent. If it doesn't, there probably won't be any "MonsterVerse" films beyond Godzilla vs Kong. There is merchandise, comic book tie ins to help out anything that my get lost at the box office. It is kind of sandwiched in between two big films.
