Um, this is weird, but I just checked my predicts for this week, and they don't look right. I'm doing the Box Office Survivor game, and there's a lot of overlap each week with similar deadlines so the last couple of weeks I've done a list Thursday night and used the same answers for both. Last week my guesses were indeed exactly the same for the same movies, but this week, they're all *completely* different. Is there any chance my numbers somehow got mixed up with someone else's?

Hmm. Looks like I might be a smidgen lower than folks on most of these. Fingers crossed for a crappy weekend.

Wow. That was unexpected. And quite dramatic.

Its funny. The first Flash Fight I intentionally skipped (because abstaining from things is what I do), the second I intended to do but got the deadline wrong along with a bunch of other folks. But this one... Nope. You have to make some pretty negative assumptions to have answering it not be a net gain for your chance of reaching week 9. The problem is that if you screw up, you leave NOW and I think there's some value in managing to hang on until, say, Week 7 instead of leaving now.

Mm, the results were changed. Originally, YourMother was at 73.94% as well, so it looked like a three-some. I figured I'd warn you out of professional courtesy since I hate seeing people outnumbered. But I guess you'd just view it as a plot.

Wait a minute... The Robots had 3 people with the exact same score? I smell collaboration. Watch yourself, DAJK. Edit - Also, that Flash Fight... Yikes.

Anyone who was BOTH over $2M on Zookeeper's Wife AND under $300K on Last Word can pretty much coast into the winner's circle right now.

Yeah, that happens to everyone once or twice in the beginning. Noctis is usually fine as a poster, but every once in a while pops one of those just to keep everyone on their toes. If its really egregious there's some temporary banning, but mostly everyone turns a blind eye because its fairly benign and kind of a running joke.

Ugh. Didn't realize Last Word would be even worse for me than Zookeeper. On the bright side, I did reasonably well on everything that wasn't a complete train-wreck, so hopefully that'll be enough to help pull the team through.

The good news is that I predicted considerably higher than you. The bad news is I was still under its Friday total.

I'm actually not sure this is true. I tracked predicts for all opens for a little over a year from the Weekend Predict thread and individual weekend threads I started. Plus, I got predicts from BO.com, Variety, Deadline and a few other places. The major takeaways I got from it are: 1. Our collective predictive wisdom is better than anyone's individual wisdom (our collective Mean and Median predictions were both significantly stronger than the predictions of anyone who predicted more than ~15-20% of new openers) 2. BO.com is genuinely good. They aren't perfect, but they are the gold standard of what is publicly available on the internet. The only folks who were arguably as good was ShowBuzzDaily.com who quit doing mid-week predicts in the fall. 3. Variety and Deadline are better than people give them credit. Not as good as BO.com, but consistently better than any of us managed to do and even slightly better than our Mean and Median results. None of which is likely to be a surprise.

Its so weird. When I first saw a preview for Boss Baby, I thought "That might actually be funny". But everything I've seen since then has been mediocre and there didn't feel like a lot of buzz. And now its a monster. Its so weird. I guess I'm just not in the target market for its advertising.
