  1. Yeah, when it was set for March it looked like a bomb; nothing's changed. Its flopping has nothing to do with SW.
  2. A LITTLE CHAOS is fun escapism, THE DRESSMAKER is one of the best films of the year.
  3. Because there were like 3 posts mentioning Winslet before me And the films are A LITTLE CHAOS and THE DRESSMAKER.
  4. I guess I could leave it until after SW, I just want to get it finished as I forgot about it when the forum design changed. But I guess it's pointless if no one is gonna read it
  5. #36 117 POINTS "No, Buzz. I am your father." Released: 1999 Directed by John Lasseter Regarded as one of the greatest sequels in modern cinema, we're kidnapping TOY STORY 2 and placing him in the museum of Box Office at rank #36.

  7. 38. 114 POINTS "What made you want to become a policeman, officer?" Released: 2007 Directed by Edgar Wright Arguably the most successful collaboration between Pegg, Frost and Wright, HOT FUZZ breaks into our list at #38 - like it or not, it's for the greater good.

The conclusion to the iconic trilogy sees INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE fly into our list at #40... just don't call him Junior.
  10. 41. 110 POINTS "We're going streaking!" Released: 2003 Directed by Todd Phillips Where would a populist comedy list be without a Will Ferrell movie? Beating THE HANGOVER by a small margin, Todd Phillips makes his mark on our list with his frat movie, OLD SCHOOL.
  11. FUCK I FORGOT THIS WAS A THING. I WAS GOING THROUGH MY COMPUTER FILES AND FOUND THE SHEET FOR THIS, SHIT.
  12. Would be odd to see Winslet get nomination or win, given that it's not even her second best performance this year.
  13. It's a Michael Bay movie, it's not going to be getting reviews and awards (other than Golden Raspberry if its lucky). Also, Lone Survivor and Act of Valor were not "really huge". Other than that, I do agree that it's releasing at a very good time, given everything with ISIS right now. And people enjoy Bay's films so it should do pretty well regardless.

  15. Just realised I didn't post my reactions to the movie last night. It's really funny. It's surprisingly sensitive towards its characters' situations. Tina Fey is phenomenal, gives one of the best lead performances of the year for me, and is more deserving of that GG than any of the nominees for "Best Actress, comedy" (not that that necessarily says a lot). Poehler and Fey have great chemistry, and it's nice to see the roles reversed. The supporting cast is strong too, particularly Barinholtz as the boy-next-door and JOHN CENA!! as a drug dealer. Arguably the strongest performance after Fey, though, is that of the director. Moore has an uncanny ability to play with the timing of a joke to whatever he wants. BRIDESMAIDS (which this has been compared to in ads) has several sequences where the central joke is dragged out for too long and becomes painfully unfunny; in contrast, SISTERS has many scenes where the joke is dragged out beyond what I could ever find funny, and yet still managed to make me howl with laughter at the same thing over and over again. It's like the director is teasing you for continuing to laugh. It's utter genius. I went into the film knowing nothing but the poster, and was surprised that it's essentially a high school reunion film - however, it doesn't explore the ideas of that type of film in the way you would expect. It's an enjoyable and funny comedy, not with huge amounts to say about anything, but simply being thoughtful instead thanks to its character writing, film direction and acting.
  16. if you mean science fiction films with spectacle and effects and action, here are some recent successes: DISTRICT 9 (30M / 211M) LOOPER (30M / 177M) SOURCE CODE (32M / 147M) IN TIME (40M / 174M) CLOVERFIELD (25M / 171M) also, THE HUNGER GAMES (78M / 694M) GRAVITY (100M / 723M) which had much smaller budgets than most major blockbusters.
  17. Hard to tell with comedies. It will come down to marketing and how all-encompassing SW will be. Counter programming can work well, but it assumes there is a reasonably large Audience who doesn't want to see SW. I haven't seen a huge marketing push but that may just be here. As for the film, it will have great legs (even more so thanks to holidays). There is very little for anyone to dislike.
  18. This movie is like Project X except you don't instantly want to punch all of the characters.
  19. Been invited to an advanced screening tonight, will probably go.
  20. Yep, agree with that too. Shame he has been overlooked everywhere.
  21. Supporting actor noms are goooood. Michael Shannon in 99 Homes is currently my personal best supporting actor of the year so far.
