  1. Really? Maybe not completely love but there must be a film everyone somewhat likes, atleast. What about Finding Nemo, Grave of the Fireflies, Toy Story 1, 2, other Pixars? Even you must atleast like them enough for a 7/10? What about The Godfathers? Indiana Jones? Lotr 1? Aladdin? Something else?
  2. Looks like I am against some complete noobs or otherwise massively unskilled players, especially at such weekly questions. Such an easy road ahead for me.
  3. Well films like Avengers and Interstellar are going to make the list. CW is better than them atleast. I'd say its easily one of the best Superhero films ever, and since they have been quite 'the thing' for the last many years it is not that difficult to comprehend how it made the list even if its true that its not close to being among the best films ever especially when the rest of the list isn't made of Apocalypse Nows anyway . What does it matter whether its 10 day old or 110 years old?
  4. I was going to try to see that and/or pulp fiction 12 hours before the deadline but it was quite late here in India and I was feeling sleepy and it felt to me like I would be watching them both, probably really really great films, more just for the sake of this list than for the simple actual pleasure of watching films for entertainment if I were to watch them this way, and that that would have been wrong.
  5. Not to worry, its good that the films that are more like 'best of the most popular ones' instead of 'best of all, ever' get out of the way so early into the list.
  6. So I watched Chinatown just a day before submitting my list/deadline. And I really loved it, the story, the acting, the atmosphere, the ending, the tension, the beautiful way in which the deep layered mystery got so crisply revealed even with turns and twists, everything. I put it at number 21, thus giving it 4 points. It made the list by 3 points. Strange are the ways of fate.
  7. Its like you guys almost simply refuse to get it so you can jab at others, make jokes or start arguments (you both are usually good guys so don't take this personally, but still). Its subjective! I just said this and I'll repeat - 1B totally can be disappointing. Is it in this case? Not at all. I think 1B+ for this particular film is indeed a success. But your posts weren't referring to this but simply the numbers themselves. 1B or any number does not signify a success in and of itself. One has to consider everything. 1B for Zootopia is HUGE, 1B for Civil War is expected, 800m+ for BvS is so disappointing, 1B for Avatar 2 will be bullshit, 1B for SW 8 will suck, 1B for AOU would have been utterly disappointing, 1B for Revenant would have been out of this world. The number, any number, does not signify anything by itself, other things have to be considered. There were so many discussions about this last year with Ultron too. I know this is mostly just a waste of time since people almost always simply refuse to change their minds, beliefs or opinions over any non-factual matter but I had to say this.
  8. Even after considering the fact that major of last week's gross came from china the drop doesn't really get much better. China dropped from 96 to 32. Subtracting that we get a weekend of 52m coming from a 121m weekend. Thats a 57% drop instead of 61.3% but still pretty bad
  9. Ok firstly, BvS wasn't really a 'flop' like these. It might end up earning back its investment at least. Its a 'disappointment'. There's a massive difference. Now, yes these costed a lot too. The similarity ends there. None of these were close to DK and SM's popularity. And they were all originals and not the followups to a 300m grosser containing just one of their two main attractions or for-the-audience follow ups to two ~500m grossers. Yes they grossed quite less than this too which is why they are all considered as one of the biggest flops EVER while I, and I guess most others, would, at the most, consider BvS to be just one of the biggest 'disappointments' of its 'year'.
  10. I'd say the addition of Superman and Wonder Woman would have been enough to counter that provided it was a good film (in the audience's eyes). Those aren't really little factors. And even after that, a 400m gross would still have been 100m$ less than what you yourself say would have been the gross of an unhurt TDKR and 90% of us still would have considered that a success. But 330m? That sucks. Especially after Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool showed how far even near-completely unknown comic book heroes can go if you put them in a good film. Those not-close-to-100th-of-Superman-and-Dark-Knight's-combined-popularity characters' films outgrossed or made as much as this! God, what else does one need to call a film a disappointment? Btw I have never really liked DCU films and wasn't expecting much of this anyway so if my arguments on the matter seem passionate, thats not because I am a depressed DC fanboy but because I'm quite surprised that someone's actually arguing that this wasn't a disappointment.
  11. So 300m Yuan more needed after a 200m weekend to get to 200m$. That's tough
  12. Not every big release but the actual next movie featuring The Dark Knight with against Superman and with Wonder Woman and it grossed 100m less than the previous dark knight film which grossed 90m less than the prev one. The cases and times were different indeed but I would say this, combined with the kind of run it had, is good enough for it to qualify as a disappointment. The 'hugeness' of grosses is subjective, just like everything else. Nothing is absolute and thus the scenario/situation/context/setting of everything needs to be considered before applying generalization onto it. 13. Btw thats a good increase. A less than 60% drop after that big an OW is pretty good in my opinion. Even WS, with nearly half as big an OW and great WOM dropped 57% on its second weekend.
  14. I think you should wait for the top 100 films countdown to end. Thats like the biggest, most major countdown in this forum of a million countdowns. It might overshadow your countdown.
  15. Wait, why did you not have Life of Pi on your list? Didn't you place it in your top 3 films since 2000? Even a last position placement would have put it in the final top 100.
  16. Not even the the first or second LOTR? Thor: The Dark World was better than Fellowship and The Two Towers in your opinion? You might not have felt them to be standalone enough but you can't really let that one thing dismiss all the other goods...
  17. I knew you had some heart hidden somewhere beneath your sadism! You had Hindi films in your top 100? Where's your list?
  18. Damn I just saw Locke last night and it was good. Like almost 90/100 good. Not an all time top 100 films list level good, of course, but since my own list had a pretty low bar (I think I have probably seen less than 20 actual all time top 100 'English' films ever level films and there are still just 33 films I have seen that I myself would even rate 90/100), it would have made it in, probably in the top 50.
  19. Neither Grave of the Fireflies nor Life of Pi could make it? Both were in my top 10... More people need to see GotF. I should have put GotF at 1 instead of 2 if only to ensure its presence Fellowship was going to be in the top 3 anyway..
