  1. This is quite stifling in my opinion. We talk numbers here. And what influences those numbers. Talks of "whitewashing" is a major influencer in GitS's performance. Many Asian Americans (and those few Asian American celebs) are actively encouraging their friends (and following) to not see this film. As long as no one is actively targeting or attacking someone else, civilized talk about why this movie tank is acceptable. I don't see how bobble head emojis and gifs are preferred over actual talk about why a film's BO is a certain way. Some conversations are difficult; we want more safe places and less censorship. Unless, the weekends thread is a purely numbers only thread, which I don't think is the case. -- I did not see BB doing this good. D:
  2. I think casting Scarlett Johansson instead of an Asian actress was shitting on fans. I know many Asians Americans not seeing the movie because of that.
  3. Tried to see Power Rangers. Did not buy tix in advance . . . Wrong choice, sold out! =[ Went to dinner instead. Will have to try another day for Power Rangers.
  4. Who the hell is Boss Baby even catered to? Parents and their current kids who are expecting a new addition? I swear Rugrats did it better with Rugrats the movie.
  5. Trying to see PR this weekend. There are like no 5 showings, which is low. =[
  6. Has it been noted that MI:6 has the same name as British espionage agency MI:6. Would be cool if there was a tie in!
  7. BatB doing good business. First hand reports -- one friend of mine saw it yesterday in an empty theater. Another friend reported this past weekend still sold out so they're seeing it tonight.
  8. Count yourself in a lucky area if you only have one kind of IMAX. Here in the city, small scale IMAX screens are popping up, not nearly the size of even a premium screen back in the day. There's also a difference between analog film IMAX and digital IMAX. Analog is superior but digital is darn close. So that difference isn't much of a game changer. What about 35mm and 70mm and other special formats? Anybody go out of their way for that? I tried to see Interstellar in 35mm but it didn't happen. But I did see The Hateful Eight in 70mm and I gotta say, it was worth it!
  9. I wanted 100 million for BATB. Oh well. I only watch 3D when the 2D showing has sold out. Kind of curious, what is everyone's preferred viewing format? For a movie that matters to me, I prefer best local IMAX -- not the dingy digital faux IMAX. For a movie that sells out, I go for reserved seating in whatever format has not sold out. For a movie, I want to see, I usually go for reserved seating in 2D. Everything else is walk up ticket for 2D.
  10. So when does Disney release the sing along version?
  11. For me, Watson was sufficient. But definitely didn't add to the character. People keep forgetting that they remade an award-winning movie and soundtrack: Grammys, Oscars, and Golden Globes. A movie that was nominated for an Oscar for best picture before the animation category existed. A movie that has been released 3 times in its original animated form. A movie that has a $1.4billion musical. When you take something beloved and don't mess it up, it will do will, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, etc. Emma Watson helped but she's definitely not the only player in the end results.
  12. I agree! For some movies, I just have them on my watch list. And I don't even bother with the trailers. Haven't been keeping up with GOTG trailers, but will watch it when it comes out. Same with BATB. Barely watched a trailer, but watched it in IMAX. Though, not going to lie, I will probably see Power Rangers too, just because nostalgia.
  13. Poor Sony. If Spiderman does well, credit will go to Marvel/Diseny. If it does bad, Sony will get the flack. As for BATB, I'm glad a "female-centric" movie is hanging with the "boys."
  14. Also, we have to give credit to Alan Menken. Every 90s kid grew up listening to him whether they knew it or not. I was reading an article in which he was talking about how he liked original projects more so than the remakes. But as they are his babies, he would never let someone else do the music. The new song for BATB, Evermore, is Mencken at his best! A soaring broadway ballad!
  15. Yes, Emma Watson. But I don't think people realize how good BATB is. In my opinion it's a superior film to lion king. It was nominated for a best picture back in the day; lion king doesn't have that. The "it's a girl" stigma is what makes lion king bigger than BATB. Like I was saying, both have fantastic musicals. Beauty and the beast kicked off Disney broadway musicals and paved the way for Lion King the musical. And Lion King has taken over as the Disney broadway musical. Touching beauty and and the beast was a risk! And they did it and succeeded. Lion king is definitely gonna be made; less risk than beauty and the beast. And it's gonna be big because it won't be a "girl" movie.
  16. They've been failing so hard in that sector. Remember Epic Mickey? Also, the Disney Infinity. They tried. But of all Disney divisions, the video game branch is the one consistently in the negative.
  17. The Disney treatment seems to be. Animated, musical, and then live-action. Both the BATB and Lion King musicals are very awesome!!! (The same can't be said for Aladdin and the Little Mermaid.)
  18. Dude!!! These numbers are awesome. Nostalgia is powerful if done well! Jeez, I can't get over how much money Disney seems to be making these days. I wouldn't underestimate pirates. It's the last one, at least that's what the trailer is advertising. And nostalgia for the first film will bring in audiences.
