  1. This is, quite literally, a film involving Batman and Superman, that looks to be tanking. And the point isn't to be rebooting endlessly. Would you call The Amazing Spider-Man series a success?
  2. Ah, yes, because WB was hoping for "to early to tell" if they will make back their investment. Look how low the bar has been set. If the question is if JL would make any money, and not how much of a profit it would turn, then the battle is already lost for WB.
  3. We haven't gotten any national estimates for today. Who knows, maybe it has a better-than-expected (after yesterday) performance today. Unlikely, but possible. We are still hours away from that first data.
  4. The break even point for BvS fell somewhere in the range of 800m-925m per reports from Variety and Deadline. I have no reason to believe (regardless of the spin) that the break even for JL would be lower than BvS.
  5. While there have been bigger box office bombs in the history of cinema, there has never been a property of this magnitude to flop in this fashion.
  6. For a movie that cost 300m (most recent reports), plus another 150m in marketing, which would necessitate a break even point of around 800m; No, 95m is not a good opening. Extrapolate that opening and you get a domestic run that will end around 250m, and overseas isn't looking like it will make up the balance. Nice try at spin, though.
  7. You think WB was happy with a 100m profit? They were expecting BvS to gross 1b+. And they will almost certainly be taking a write down on JL.
  8. I'd say it's a testament to the quality of those films. It's breakout opening wouldn't have happened if not for the film's quality, which in turn informed the film's great marketing. And vice versa with JL.
  9. Warcraft's performance in China encouraged me to make a video essay detailing China's rapid growth in the global box office. Please enjoy my editorial, "China, Hollywood, & The Box Office Paradigm Shift":
  10. Browsing Fandango this evening, to get an idea on how my local megaplex is doing. It has Civil War playing on 12 (out of 23) screens, in various formats. Most showings are selling out 15-30 minutes prior to showtime. This theater had few earlly sellouts for BvS. Some for Deadpool.
  11. Hope you don't see this as spamming, but I really do think those interested in the MCU, and it's behind-the-scene's aspects will find this entertaining:
  12. So your argument is: DC's largest film ever is beating second tier Marvel films DC's largest film ever losing to TDK and TDKR means nothing because both those films have excuses for crossing 1B DC's largest film ever under-performing compared to studio expectations is meaningless DC's largest film ever making only 900m is ok because the success line was 1b instead of 2b. Am I getting you wrong anywhere?
  13. If BvS passed 1b, it would have been at the very least a moderate success. But it didn't, which is why we are discussing it's disappointment. Suggesting we would consider 2b, a bar only 3 films have ever passed, to be a benchmark of success, is ludicrous. In fact, I now feel stupider for having retyped your suggestion. Thank you.
  14. Will BvS make $800-$900 million WW? Yes. Is that a lot of money? Yes Should BvS have made much more? Yes DC's top three characters will make less money than the last two solo Batman films. BvS defenders, try to put a positive spin on that.
  15. That's adorable. Talk to me when it ends it's run below 900m when Warner Bros needed it to cross 1b.
