  1. This is sounding more and more suspiciously like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves...including the drab, colorless costumes, and (presumably, possibly) flamboyantly evil king character.
  2. Running out of likes...good to hear good news about something this summer...so much has been disappointment.
  3. We seem to agree on a large number of things, I sometimes wonder whether we are brothers from another mother... ;-)
  4. The more I see of this, actually (that new clip included), the more it looks like this film might be how the series should have started in the first place, tone-wise.
  5. If they're going for 'retro' vibe...than just GO for it, that's what I say. ;-)
  6. They missed an opportunity here in the marketing to really embrace the Trek-i-ness of the old-school franchise... They should have used "trailer voice guy" and used "Beyond the stars..." "Beyond existence..." "Beyond timelines..." STAR TREK: BEYOND ;-)
  7. It's Michael Bay and Transformers, and the last one made over $1billion...Paramount surely believes it sells itself at this point, regardless of the content...which is sad.
  8. THE LEGEND OF THE FANTASY OF THE TALE OF KING ARTHUR Let's just throw it all in there, why not? This project's already being thrown around in the schedule (and probably in post) more than 47 Ronin et al.
  9. Not a "reshoot" of anything already shot, to be clear. "Additional photography" would be more apt, here. ;-) And no, director Nic Meyer didn't do it and didn't agree with it at the time, but he's come around since...he's also stated his opinion that STID goes beyond homage to ripoff, though (and he's friends with Abrams, so that tells you something).
  10. There are differing opinions, but Season 8 and particularly 9, for me, have some of the best stuff the show ever did...because they allowed it to finally "grow up" a bit. They basically "soft-rebooted" many elements, and certain characters like Durance's Lois Lane finally gets to shine in the capacity she was meant for (rather than a strange "too soon" presence hanging around Smallville, the town, in earlier seasons...then again, Lex was there the whole time, and that worked out). I was so interested in that process that I wrote a chapter for a book focused just on Season 8. Season 10 definitely felt redundant/unneeded.
  11. Great new piece on Sony's current anxieties about Ghostbusters. Posting this here because the thread is closed, and I feel it's relevant, as this seems like a sinking ship (and is described that way in the article): https://variety.com/2016/film/news/ghostbusters-female-reboot-marketing-challenges-1201810847/ Yeah, that's right...I made a choice.
  12. This movie, to me, is not needed to begin with...we'll see what Greengrass and Damon have delivered. But I thought most of the third one was already redundant.
  13. It isn't a big deal...it's just a few people trying to make it one. (I'm not going to touch the "lighter skin" debate). This is also synergistic for Warner Bros. Subtly reflecting the ongoing dynamic of the popular TV show (which, let's be honest, is still seen by many less people than the film potentially/ideally will be), and of course looking forward in terms of diverse casting in tentpoles. Warners did the same thing (though without the diversity) for Superman Returns vs. Smallville (which was airing at the same time). Bryan Singer and Warner Bros. "convinced" (or basically ordered) the Smallville producers to change-up their pre-existing mythology at the end of Season 4 and into the rest of the show by tying it thematically and aesthetically much more to Donner's classic film universe, which Singer's film was a loose sequel to. While this didn't work out quite as well for the 2006 film, it's not as if it was outright rejected...and in fact some even look back at it more fondly now than they did at the time. ...And Smallville lasted an impressive ten seasons.
  14. This doesn't really deserve a reply, but... So what? He has a husband and a kid here, too. ;-) This is an "alternative universe." Things can -- and should -- happen differently. I'm happy they are going their own way, rather than blatantly lifting whole segments of scripts from Star Trek II, as they did with STID.
  15. Shouldn't there be word percolating now if the Australia premiere took place tonight?
  16. This looks ... ehh... I'll refrain from commenting except to say that if Hanks weren't in this, this is the kind of trailer I'd expect to see for a cheap B-movie premiering on the SyFy channel... even Hanks, I don't know wtf he's doing with that performance... What *is* interesting is that both of these trailers feature 75% exclusive footage...interesting entirely different perspective each market is taking.
  17. Tim Russ has been involved with a few, I think. He's working on another one right now. I do now wonder...will this one "LEAVE" or "REMAIN"...? ;-)
  18. Yeah, the shoddy grammar here makes no sense -- it's unclear if the reporter means "a week's" worth of scenes (i.e. very little), or "a few weeks"... but given that the schedule seems far along, as you say, then yes, the role is probably small.
  19. http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/exclusive-scoop-story-character-details-for-transformers-the-last-knight-905 If the producers have any brain cells left, Hopkins could perhaps be the reincarnation of (my wanted speculation)...they don't indicate anything about that here, though... Still...this incessant need to tie things to Earth has become boring...
  20. None of what you said is false, except for you saying what I said wasn't true ;-) I'd urge you to, if you want to do real research, look back at the past couple of years of Scott quotes about the Prometheus sequel, and see how they change over time, morphing into discussion much more resembling familiar "Alien" territory, and see how Blomkamp/Weaver were also very clear that Scott "wanted his movie to go first." Promotheus, while generating a strong opening weekend, does not remain in "good standing" relative to its critical and audience reception.
  21. Scott, though still retaining a lot of power in the industry, is clearly feeling the FOX pressure here based on the middling performance of Prometheus. There's clearly a directional push down the exit lane towards Alien territory by connecting it not only through title and creatures now, but apparently more (as above). Yet Scott and his ego were able to muscle Blomkamp's film out of the way...too bad, I'm much more interested in that one.
