  1. In-ter-esting. HR claims they're keeping SGS's script (though I'm sure it'll have at least a couple more "polishes"). Wouldn't it be truly ironic if WB/SGS now are fractured because they actually are responding to criticisms of BvS and indeed intend on making Flash significantly "tonally different" (i.e. lighter)? I'd really like to see this dude do Beetlejuice 2...but the longer it goes on development, the less likely that is, too.
  2. There were plenty of people involved in the production of The Crow in 1993 that debated/wanted to cancel the film and put it on the shelf, after what happened there. Fortunately, this is not involving a death...but it sounds severe enough to pull the lead out of the production for the foreseeable future, if not fully. We'll see what happens here. Depends how far into filming they were, and how much the investors will want to...recoup. (morbid, but it's the truth) I doubt they'll recast, at this point.
  3. That's Public Relations...always putting their "best foot forward." I could tell this was serious when we first heard about it.
  4. All four of the Alien films are genius on production design alone, unlike most of the shlocky, recycled, digitally-manipulated sci-fi we get these days...
  5. http://variety.com/2016/film/box-office/the-huntsman-faces-steep-writedown-after-chilly-box-office-results-1201760908 The still says it alll...
  6. Whoever holds the current distribution rights. Warner Bros., I'd imagine.
  7. "Ridley demanded Neil not make our Alien first because he knows it would generate much more public interest and make audiences forget about any "Prometheus" film. We have an awesome script, a more authentic sequel to the original two films. But we're barred from shooting because Ridley strong-armed his way into a Producer credit for our film, and we have to wait until he finishes his shitty film. But fuck Ridley, we're going to shoot this fucker no matter what, even if we have to wait until he dies."
  8. She had a couple of pieces of dialogue, then is taken out of the film about 2/3 of the way in. I'm betting there was more of her, edited out. What I found funny/interesting is you have English actors like Oldman and Eve playing American, but the whole thing is set in London...they could have just been MI6 liasons, or something, instead of American CIA! Nice to see Antje Traue again, as well, as another badass (one of the only enjoyable bits of Man of Steel, for me).
  9. I saw this last night and dug it (but maybe I'm just morbid). I caught a double feature of Huntsman and this, and I'd almost swear there were more people in this theater (75% over-40 crowd) than for Huntsman (filled 75% with teenage girls, interestingly). (What a bore Huntsman is...but I digress.) It's a testament to Costner that you pretty quickly root for a character as awful as his is (his regular grunts are hilarious); not only that, as he develops humanity, I felt more and more invested in the outcome. It gets over a pretty ludicrous premise through his (and even Gal's) performance. Oldman and TLJ are, yeah...there. And Alice Eve must have had more to do that was cut out, as well as perhaps Reynolds (unless he did it as a favor to someone). By the end I was wishing for a sequel with Costner's hybrid character!
  10. This is my new favorite photograph. That's right, Denzel, you tell 'em. Ain't no one going to put nothin' past you!
  11. I don't mean to start an off-topic conversation here, but...I still can't get over casting a great presence like Idris Elba and covering him up under all of this goofy make-up...which bares a strange resemblance to 90s-era Next Gen make-up (I loved the show, but this definitely feels more Insurrection than TOS). Combined with a recent assessment of Lupita Nyong'o's lack of establishment in live-action features over the past couple of years...her appearances since 12 Years consist solely of motion-capture performances...I can't help but wonder if an unconscious or possibly even conscious fear or bias against "dark" black actors exists in Hollywood. This is a longtime historical thing, of course...particularly with African-American actresses. I just would have loved to see IDRIS face off against Kirk, face-to-face. I suppose we can always hope for an unlikely, subversive Scooby Doo mask reveal...? Unlikely. His lack of real "face time" will definitely not help audience interest in this film.
  12. This is all definitely...curious...as Spock would say. Even the posters/promo at Cinemacon have no real identity to them, just the title and some flares. And both the teaser and posters are once again minimizing the "Star Trek" in the title...as if Paramount's embarrassed by it! (Bad flashbacks of "Nemesis", where Paramount did the same thing.)
  13. Fatigue will only set in across the genre when they start making more bad movies than good...and they start making less money than other genres. Remember the 90s? ;-) For Marvel, that time doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. For FOX, Deadpool has probably inspired them to take more chances (although F4 was an equally opposite dip into the muddy well of disdain). For Warner Bros/DCEnt? Hmm...if their next two-to-three are received as badly as BvS was, things will be put on ice for a while, I'm guessing...
  14. Yeah...first where? First "legitimate" big-screen superhero? Blank: Blade got three films and a short-lived TV series, you know... (yes, I know it wasn't Marvel Studios)
  15. A $300 million bump in the road? Jonah Hex was a bomb, but didn't cost that much...so a "bump in the road" (and it shouldn't have been made). Watchmen underperformed, and could be categorized as a "bump in the road." Green Lantern, which, by many accounts, cost much more than WB let on, was creatively and financially a fiasco, a full-on shanda. A huge investment down the drain, a write-off of significant proportions for the studio, which failed to start their "cinematic universe"...and nearly killed Ryan Reynolds' career (but hey, he met Blake Lively).
  16. And what are those "goals", exactly? Establishing goodwill among the general audience and fans? Setting up charismatic, likeable, aspiring "heroes"? Making sure to establish a tone that prevents children/families from being able to see your films? Hmm... Will finally go and check out this behometh...or rather, this water balloon that seems to be bursting...tonight. Catching a double feature of 'Midnight Special' and a Sat eve showing of BVS...Michael Shannon six degrees for the win. Will report back with results.
  17. Robinov said the same during pre-release Man of Steel days about that film, boasting that it would the "the most successful film in Warner Bros.' history." Warner Bros. features still has a significant problem on their hands -- this is not like Transformers, where the robots can carry the show if need be; these films need recognizable, sympathetic, heroic and, yes...sometimes funny protagonists (and antagonists) to make this "universe" work. To date, they haven't universally struck that with audiences. If BVS doesn't beat Deadpool domestically or worldwide, Warners sure will be sore...and will be firing some people, I think. The marketing team took the fall for Superman Returns, will it be someone else this time?
  18. Zack and Deborah Snyder are holding on to them as ransom to force Warner Bros. to allow him to direct Justice League...
  19. Those TV spots...interesting. I hope this is not another Depp case where he's appearing in the first fifteen minutes of the movie and then 'comatose' for the rest. Maybe that's why he agree to do this...because he didn't have to fully commit for the whole shoot.
  20. Who Would Win in a Fight, Batman or Superman? Celebs and General Zod Weigh In Michael Shannon "I’m so utterly unconcerned with the outcome of that fight. So profoundly, utterly unconcerned. I can’t even come up with a fake answer. I guess I have to root for Superman because he killed me, so I would hope that he would continue his killing spree and become like a serial killer Superman. That’s a new take on Superman. We’d all be in a heap of trouble if Superman was a serial killer. He could just wipe us all out. But then he’d be lonely." Isn’t he already lonely? "Well, we’re all lonely." http://www.vulture.com/2016/03/batman-superman-who-would-win.html
  21. Obviously I wish him the best, but...this film now has a reallllly unfortunate title. ...and what is this about Native American artifacts being stolen from one of the previous film's sets? Does karma mean anything to anyone?
