  1. I'm not questioning anyone's knowledge, but math is math. In the simplest form, if you only have one screen that seats 100 people, and you have a movie that plays 90 minutes, and sells 75 tickets per showing, theres not a scenario where you should ever replace it with a 3 hour movie. I know that's not exactly what we are looking at here, but it's the point I was trying to make.
  2. But they can just about play those movies twice for every one time that EG plays. Unless EG showings are double attendance or more to what DP showings are, it makes more sense to put the shorter movie in.
  3. Double, cause the first one screwed up... But Universal bought 400+ acres next to the Orlando Convention Center. The assumption is that the will build another resort there with a new park, hotels and Citiwalk. Nothing has been announced though.
  4. Universal bought 400+ acres in Orlando right next to the convention center. The logical thought is that they are going to build a new resort there with a third park, hotels and Citiwalk.
  5. I wouldn't put it at 0%. Newt did go to Hogwarts and certainly learned a lot of what he knows about the beasts there and in the Forbidden Forest. Many Beast live there. We don't yet know where Newt ends up. He could be currently living in the forest alive or in ghost form for all we know. It's not a stretch to think the next movie would have scenes in the Forbidden Forest, so a FB attraction set in the Forest on the current DC location is not unreasonable. I do however agree that they'll hold it for the new park.
  6. Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been brought up before. I did a quick search and didn't really see anything that fit the question I had. I am going to be in LA a week or so after Fantastic Beasts opens up, and, if I haven't seen it already, may want to catch it while I'm there. I've never been to LA, and, if I'm going to take the time to watch the movie there, I'd like to watch it somewhere unique. I'd like IMAX or other large format. Reserved seating is probably a must as I really don't want to have to get there real early to get center theater. We have theaters around here that do the food and drinks at your seat, so, thats a plus, but nothing I haven't seen before. I'll be staying near Universal, so convenience may dictate that I see it there, but I'll have a car, so I can get around if need be. In researching, Chinese theater, Arclight, and Ipic seem the most interesting, but I figure I'd ask the experts to see which is the best or if there is another that I should consider instead.
  7. Sooo, If there are no delays and no one flinches, that puts Star Wars a week before Avatar. How badly do they hurt each other? and yes I expect Avatar to get delayed, I'm just saying if both were to release on schedule.
  8. Went and saw it a second time today. Took Mom to an IMAX 3D 12:30 showing. About 80% full. Didn't think the 3d really added anything to it, but loved watching on an IMAX screen. Mom is 60 and has seen all the Star Wars, most in theaters. Her first reaction at credits: Well that Sucked! She didn't like Han dying and was mad that Luke was barely in it and didn't say anything. We talked about the movie the whole way home and who was Rey's parents and alot of the stuff that everyone is debating on here. By the time we got home she was asking when we could go see it again. lol
  9. The first death star got taken out by just a single X-Wing. The second was pretty much the same once the shields were down. It seems to be a pattern.
  10. Yeah Its not a regional thing. I just didn't know how common the early closing was nationwide. That theatrer is inside a shopping complex, so I'd assume that's why they are closed that early.
  11. Our local big IMAX theater has no showings today after 5 pm. This isn't sell outs, they are just closing early. How prevalent are early closings on Christmas and how much will that affect today's gross?
  12. Apple did 231 billion in revenue last year and something like $50 billion in profit. 10% of that is pretty strong. Chrysler isn't doing close to those numbers.
  13. I'll go with Apple Computers buying Ronald Wayne's 10% stake in the company back in 1976 for $800.
  14. I think it ends up that she's a Solo. Kids were taken from their families at a young age to begin jedi training. Who knows how old she was when she began hers. Her parents may not have seen her for years before Ben goes dark side and kills everyone. And even then, kids don't look the same at age 5(or whenever) as they do when they grow up. Ever look through someones facebook tbt kid pics and not recognize which one was them even after they told you? So let's assume the set up is that at 3 years old, Rey goes with uncle luke to begin jedi training. 4 or 5 years later, Ben goes darkside and kills everyone, except Luke and Rey. He goes and hides her on Jakku, does an obliviate on her, and splits never telling anyone that Rey survived so that Ben wouldn't hunt her down to kill her. So Han and Leia think shes dead and don't recognize her when she shows up. She doesn't remember her parents or that she is a jedi, so she won't recognize any of them. She already has force training and is force sensitive, combined with whatever life we haven't seen on Jakku, makes it so she can fight naturally. So when the force within the lightsaber decides to wake her buried memories up, the training she does have kicks in. I think the "Force Awakens" title is referring to the Force insider her that Luke buried or hid years before, and isn't just a catchy title or a reference to more jedis. I think the writers want you to think she's a Skywalker. If she turns out to be a Skywalker, everyone will be like I told you so and there will be no shock. By making her a Solo, they get some shock value out of it. It also sets up a much better dynamic of brother vs sister instead of just cousins. It also keeps her as Anakin Skywalkers descendant for those who think the movies have to be about Skywalkers. I think it all fits really. At least as much as some other things we accept in Star Wars.
  15. Monday - $40 million - Whoooooo Move over avatar Tuesday - $40 million - Whooooo $1 Billion locked! 16. The Billions they make off the movies is nothing compared to the .... Millions they make off merch?
  17. The theater setup for Ep 8 should be interesting. Coming off this, the hype train will be rolling hard. And regardless whether it even can match 7, the theater, screen, and showing counts could get unreal.
  18. But wouldn't that be against the two Sith rule? I still think its palpatine. No way that fall in ROTJ should have killed him. Scarred, sure. But he should have survived it. Makes his search for Luke more logical and personal.
  19. The only reason I have seen the movie already is my local theatre added a showing Sunday evening in one of their partial reserved theaters. Other than that there are no reserved seats open on a 2D until Wednesday.(The wife won't do 3d and wasn't standing in line an hour plus) The reserved only theater an hour away has had just about every showing sold out till Wednesday already. The open seating theaters aren't selling out near as much. I think the reserved seating will be the norm in the future and would have added even more to TFA's gross if it was in place this weekend. A lot of people weren't going to fight the lines, but would have went if they knew they could get a seat.
