Weekend Actuals: The Force Awakens - 90.2M !!!
misterchief81 replied to #ED's topic in Numbers and Data
I don't even think it needs to be a special edition. Throw a trailer for Rogue One (and maybe other Disney/Marvel) properties later on in the release cycle. Make the trailers exclusive, don't put them online for a long time, just to get people in theatres to see it, even if they've already seen TFA before. -
Weekend Actuals: The Force Awakens - 90.2M !!!

Would have been fun to see it hit 100+ mil this weekend, but it's still passing 700 today in 16 days. Something that only Avatar had done, and it took that film 72 days. And it will pass 750 in 18 days, 800 mil in 23 days, and be closing in on 900 mil in its first month of release. What an incredible run TFA is having. -

650 in 14 days! -
I would love to see an extended edition. Not just for the box office implications, though that would be welcome. But moreso because I want more time in the universe, more time with the characters. I also think its its a mistake if Disney releases it on digital/Blu Ray in March. Not everything needs to come out right away. Especially not something doing as well in theatres as TFA is doing. Give it some time. Give people even more incentive to see it in theatres (or see it more than once), because they won't be able to own it right away.

Star Wars TFA Tuesday Actual: 29.5M !!! (-6%)

JW could fall on Thursday if the holds are strong enough. Then Titanic on Friday and Avatar on Monday (Sunday, if the weekend is really great) Edit: Think about how insane that sounds. Downing the top 3 domestic box office unadjusted gross leaders in only 14-18 days. Unreal. -
Weren't all those previous OW record holders, summer releases though? That's what makes TFA unique. It had the OW of a summer release, but was release right before the holidays when multipliers are typically higher with less Jan/Feb competition.

Yeah. Same for me. It goes back or forward to that page, but the actual posts on the page never load. But if I hit the refresh button on safari, everything on that page loads normally.

Star Wars TFA 2nd Wknd Actual: 149.2M !!!

I don't think Disney is even doing screeners for TFA. That's why the Academy has extra screenings in place for their members. Because everyone is being forced to see it at those guild screenings or in theatres with the public (which is a great way to see a film like this anyway, with people cheering). Disney certainly doesn't want this leaking, just like they didn't want spoilers leaking. -

Agreed. The more I listen to the score, the more I love it. The Farewell and the Trip, and Jedi Steps and the Finale are great too. -

Patton Oswalt has a great joke on one of his albums about Lucas getting everyone hyped for new Star Wars movies, and being like "you all love love Vader right? Well here he is as an annoying kid!" And a bunch of other spot on analysis about the prequels and Lucas basically giving us all shitty stories nobody asked for based on characters and a universe we loved. -

He probably has access to Rentrak data. -
Isn't Disney adding an "Avatar Land" to their Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida? It presents an interesting conflict. They have a vested interest in Avatar sequels doing well, to help promote their Avatar rides/attractions, while at the same time, hoping Fox doesn't do too well with them, and outstrip the success of their Star Wars and Marvel films.

One of the funny things about it not hitting 250 yesterday is that now the breakdown will look like this: Days to 100 mil - 1 Days to 150 mil - 2 Days to 200 mil - 3 Days to 250 mil - 4 Days to 300 mil - 5

Probably Disney. They used to do that when I managed there years ago. For their Burbank and Glendale employees and their families.
