That's how I feel about my moviepass card, now that there is no longer the restriction of seeing a particular movie only one time. I used it for Last Jedi on multiple occasions, and will do so for Black Panther as well.

This. Unless you drive really far to go to a movie theatre, it's really not that difficult to stop by earlier in the day and pick up a ticket, whether a site has reserved seating or not. And if a site does do reserved seating, get their App (Regal, Cinemark, AMC etc), and you can track how busy a showtime is by what seats are still available. Any idiot just randomly driving to theatres to use their moviepass shortly before a showtime (especially for a weekend like BP had) deserves to waste gas money, when they could have just looked on an exhibitor's or Fandango's app to see what seats were still available and if it was worth going to the theatre to pick up a ticket.

Probably wasn't totally up to Disney. I imagine theatres had contractual obligations for at least 2 weeks to retain theatres for 5th wave and Grandpa. Theatres, I'm sure, would have gladly scaled those back to make room for Panda and Finest Hours, but they probably weren't able to. So TFA was the victim.

Doesn't the Forums link on boxoffice.com still direct here? -
They love cars. And the franchise is more recognizable there. The film market in China wasn't very big when the prequels came out (plus those sucked, which didn't help), and virtually non exisistant back in the 70's and 80's. I think Disney is in it for the long haul, laying the groundwork for the rest of the films. Casting Donnie Yen in Rogue One won't hurt things.

I think the struggle there is just how busy they are. That building sees so much volume that things like seats and carpet are bound to wear down a little quicker than some other locations. But yeah, their Prime auditorium was just renovated back in June when they signed the deal with Dolby. And it had been upgraded a couple times before that earlier in the year when they added Atmos and swapped out the regular seats for leather recliners.

Depends on word of mouth. Revenant had a fantastic opening weekend, but if a large majority of this weekend's audience tell their friends that it was too long, too violent, too boring etc (and the cinemascore wasn't great, so that 's a possibility), it's 2nd weekend holds might not be enough to overtake TFA. Ride Along should beat TFA though.

Whether this movie turns out to be good or not, the title is horrible. I can easily see the general audience hearing the name, saying to themselves "WTF is Free State of Jones?", and then going to see Captain America Civil War instead. Or Snowden, or the Neighbors 2. Think this movie tanks given the May release date. If it was really good, it would do far better Oct-Dec.

I'd be surprised if the game tonight had a major impact on grosses, unless you live in Alabama or South Carolina. I expect ratings to be down for this game, just like the semi finals. Clemson is not a national brand. They have their fanbase locally, but people on the west coast, for example, couldn't care less about them being in the game. And I think I can speak for everyone outside of Alabama when I say that the entire country is tired of seeing Saban (or the SEC for that matter) in the championship game year after year.

Too bad many theatres these days set up their screens and masking to open top or bottom instead of the sides. Can't take advantage of scope or panavision films when the screens are already wall to wall, and the masking comes down from the ceiling, thus making flat movies use all screen real estate and scope and beyond actually appear smaller. -
Oh, I know. I agree with you there. It's not he made the rules or chose which era to be born in. That's what makes comparing different eras so hard. In baseball, and box office (wooo, made this post on topic!). You had Ruth playing in a time when there probably wasn't the overall skill/athletic talent there is today. You had guys in the 70's snorting coke, the steroid era, etc. I do still believe that had Ruth had to play in today's game against all sorts of players, he wouldn't have been the superstar he was back then.

Weekend Actuals: The Force Awakens - 90.2M !!!

I don't really care what time of year they release it. Like others have said, it's going to make money no matter what. Either through the holidays, or through the summer. I'd only prefer they release it December 2017, because May feels too close to the release date of Rogue One. There should be at least a year between Star Wars universe films. I worry about oversaturation when you have Episode 7 in 12/15, Rogue One 12/16, Episode 8 5/17, and then have the Han Solo prequel, and Episode 9 after that. Give the main trilogy 2 years between movies, with the side stories in the off years.
