Maybe the worst article I’ve ever read.

Choosing to have his anti-hero face off against Superman instead of Shazam was best for business.”

    That worked out really well……..

While Black Adam was not profitable, it still was the highest grossing DCEU movie since Aquaman. It's been reported by the members of the tracking thread that the movie's presales jumped after the Superman cameo was spoiled, and a member involved in The Rock's production company also said that the massive interest in the rumored Henry Cavill appearance at Comic Con was what caught their attention to actually make the cameo happen. Looking at last weekend's numbers, I think it's safe to say a Shazam cameo wouldn't give the same boost to Black Adam's ticket sales. So I think at the end of the day The Rock made the right decision because it at least saved his movie from a much bigger embarrassment like the one Shazam 2 is facing.

Also, WB tried to repeat that stunt with certain cameo in Shazam 2, which to me it's a sign that the studio believes it worked for Black Adam.

If what Grace Randolph says is true, then WB is apparently helping out with it, and it will officially mark a point of closure for Zack Snyder in regards to DC.

I think it's believable that Snyder made some deal with WB in order to screen his movies at the event, because he probably needs their approval for that. And I think it would be really cool if there was an appearance from James Gunn where Snyder shows his support for the new DCU or even better yet, if they announce some DC project at least produced by Snyder, even if it's just some animation. This division between DC fans who adore Snyder and the ones who hate his movies has got to stop, because it serves absolutely no one. At least no one who cares for DC films.

  3. Shazam 2 is having a similar drop from the first movie’s opening than the drop Justice League had from Batman v Superman’s opening. While BVS at the time was considered the death of the DCEU, 2019’s Shazam was praised by bloggers and called the ideal DC movie. I don’t know what to make of it but it’s interesting that their sequels faced the same percentage drop (assuming Shazam 2 really opens to around $30m).

How is Cars 2 to blame for Cars 3 and Planes bombing? I say that as a defender of both BvS and Cars 2.

If Aquaman was a hit coming after BVS, SS and JL how are the reception to those movies responsible for Shazam 2 bombing? It doesn’t make sense to me. Do you mind explaining why that only affects some movies but not others?

The only thing nagging me is how Spyglass will be feeling so vindicated about short-changing Neve.

Assuming the rest of the world reacted to the movie the way people at my showing did, I think it would be stupid if they don't give Neve Campbell the money she wants to return. People were cheering for Gale and Kirby much more than they did for Jenna Ortega's character. I believe the legacy characters and how they were treated by the script are one of the reasons this movie is being so well received by the fans. It will be a great card to play in a future sequel to have Sidney return.

  6. I'm sure fans will find stuff to nit pick but this was really good. For me it's on par with 2 and 5 which are the best sequels. Great death/chase sequences, solid script that ties everything into an overall theme, and even the third act reveal felt like an homage to the one in Scream 2, intentional or no. There's also a plot point about Melissa Barrera's character that's very relevant and I don't even think many people will pay attention. I'm really surprised by these last 2 movies because I didn't know it was possible for the Scream franchise to still provide material to think about and discuss.

  7. I think this has potential. Game Night was awesome. Trailers are pretty good. Chris Pine and especially Michelle Rodriguez are somewhat popular internationally. Audiences haven't had a successful comedic blockbuster since how many months now that Quantumania disappointed everyone and Shazam 2 is likely to bomb? I wouldn't be surprised if it's great and gets praised by critics, which could ignite some decent buzz.

  8. Saw it on Monday and couldn't identify exactly what would make audiences reject it because it felt like an average MCU movie. It's not like Eternals, which we can understand the reception because it was more ambitious and tried something a bit different. Quantumania is a little more serious than the typical MCU movie, but it's not that extremely serious. That's why I'm starting to consider that the thought of a superhero fatigue may not be an exaggeration after all.
