  1. A complete reboot is illogical. Wonder Woman and Aquaman proved DC doesn't need a reboot to succeed. The Batman doing less than those movies also shows how hard it is to sell a reboot even with everything done right (it had insane online hype, critical acclaim, and celebrated director and cast). Imagine what happens if they reboot the DCEU with some less than stellar movies. It's a risky gamble that could cause much more damage to the brand than a bad Wonder Woman 3 and Man Of Steel 2.

  2. If representation is really a major issue for you, you should support everyone who does it, not only the studio you're a fanboy of. Just saying... 🤷‍♂️ I fully support your fight for diversity (it's a major issue for me) but be more mindful of what it really means. You can't cherry pick the movies you defend and the ones you help society eviscerate. Makes you seem hypocritical.

  3. I have only had positive experiences on Twitter. It was there where I found other Snyder fans and Amber Heard supporters, and I don't know if there's any other place where I would be able to have those connections that have been helpful for my mental health. When BVS came out, and during the Virginia trial this year, I felt so alone, but Twitter was important for me to know that I wasn't crazy and that there are many more people out there who think like me. I don't mind the bullying because I trained myself many years ago to not let other people's comments affect me, though I understand that's an issue for most people. For me, Twitter is a very useful social network and I'll miss it. But if it's gone it won't be that bad either, I think it's time for me to spend less time on my phone and focus on living anyway.

Seems to me that DC has been attempting that for around Ten years now.....

I am skeptical about the "all mediums" part. If you have to buy a comic book to follow a storyline in the movie, you will lose the General Audeince.

More like 14 years. This Wall Street Journal article is from August 2008:

    Quote

With "Batman vs. Superman" and "Justice League" stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel's model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. "Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own," Mr. Robinov says.

    (...)

The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.

Insane how unstable has been the management of this franchise, WB is always changing their minds about how to do it.

  5. It's fun but kinda disappointing. The movie has a first half that is intriguing and suspenseful but then starts to not take itself seriously and becomes goofy and weird in a way that was frustrating to me. For something as hyped as this was, I was expecting it to bring something new to the genre. I also don't think there was anything clever about the script. I'm sure it was a great time for the ones who had the opportunity to see it in a theater with an audience, though. But to me it was just disposable entertainment.

  6. Pray for the Devil can’t be worse than The Nun. Lionsgate should have put a little more effort promoting it cause horror movies are on a good moment. I didn’t see Smile but people say it’s mediocre at best. It doesn’t seem that hard these days to trick audiences into seeing a bad horror movie. Even Halloween Ends did great for one weekend.

  7. I was unironically enjoying this up until the last 30 minutes or so. By the moment the CGI villain appears, the movie gets real messy in many aspects. Black Adam being locked in the Task Force X underwater prison serves no purpose, Doctor Fate’s death didn’t feel earned, the kid calling the population to fight was lame, and the CGI villain was pure non sense garbage. Since it’s mandatory for comic book movies to have a CGI fest for a finale, I would have just reshot the scene where they go rescue the kid - expand that scene into a third act CGI battle, and no matter how bad it looked, I think the movie would work much better still. Because up until that point I thought it was a perfectly entertaining movie - fun, fast paced, with some really good story bits, and great action.

#THEY are fuming with the news. We love to see it.

But DC fans have all loved the choices.

I'm tired of this division, and I agree with Grace that it only hurts the DCEU. But I don't forget that "the real DC fans" (the ones who don't like Snyder) supported Hamada's plan to make all DC films standalone, which was stupid and didn't work (in terms of box office), and they weren't able to give any DCEU movie a big opening weekend, which makes us question even how many "real DC fans" exist. I don't even need to talk about the response to the return of Snyder's Superman, or how the Snyder Cut was a major improvement over the Joss Whedon version, which "the real DC fans" also doubted would be the case. Way too many times the Snyder fans have been proven right, and in my opinion, it's pretty clear that they're the most significant portion of the DCEU fanbase and it's beyond stupid for WB to alienate them.

With that said, I don't agree with the opinion of some of them about James Gunn running DC and I think we should give him a chance. I really liked his Suicide Squad film.

  9. Black Adam would have smashed with an opening over $100m if there was an actual plan for the DCEU, if the movie had been teased in another previous big DCEU movie, and Black Adam was facing against already established heroes (or the Suicide Squad), instead of this Justice Society that audiences are unfamiliar with. Hopefully the new management of DC understands the potential this shared universe has wasted in the past 5 years or so by making standalone movies that lead no nowhere. Make a plan and stick with it no matter what.

For what the movie is, a $67m opening is great

How would the next Halloween film work? They obviously can’t have it be part of this particular timeline, unless they plan on having someone other than Michael Myers be the killer. Are they going to do another sequel to the original that ignores all the other films, or a complete reboot?

Hard to see audiences being as excited for yet another reboot that ignores all the sequels and picks up from the original. Also don't think Jamie Lee Curtis would return. And audiences also don't seem receptive to remakes these days. It will be tricky to continue the Halloween franchise in the near future. But even the lowest opening of the trilogy ($40m) is still massive for a horror film, hard to see the industry not wanting to continue milking the franchise.

Is The Batman WB's most successful movie within the past year? It certainly seems like it. All their other stuff seemed to either underperform, near flop, or straight up bomb in the case of Matrix Resurrections.

In a weird way maybe this whole debt situation may cause them to start doing more quality control across the board, they sure do need it.

I agree, WB the production studio really needed a change of leadership. They ruined or nearly ruined their most valuable franchises or the potential ones, if you think about it. Stephen King adaptations after IT, Lego Movie, Harry Potter, DC, Matrix, all of them were quickly burned to the ground in the past 4 or 5 years for creative reasons alone. Some executives didn't want to make Joker. They were against the very single decision that saved Black Adam from bombing this weekend. I'm not a fan of David Zaslav, but the shake up in the WB leadership was really needed (I'm talking about WB the studio, because I was actually a fan of Jason Kilar running WarnerMedia ).

This soft reboot stuff from the Snyder-verse is a huge mess.

By the end of 2023 we'll know how bad it is. Or the mixed results will confuse WB execs even more. :sparta:

All of that stuff is fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with the exception of Black Adam and Wonder Woman 84 which barely missed it (58%)
