Sorry in advance for not knowing how to embed on this site, but more extremely positive reactions from critics who have written for Collider, HCA, Awards Watch, and Variety/Ebert Voices/The Playlist/IndieWire/Vanity Fair:

All I'm getting from these reactions is that this is definitely a James Cameron movie à la Titanic and Avatar

Near flawless pacing, amazing visuals, great action and strong emotions. And maybe some corny bits but who cares?

But no matter what early reactions say or critics say, the ultimate judgment will come when this is released in the wild to the GA, They will be the ultimate decider of the success of this film.

Some people will resist it, and some people will have a downright religious experience watching it

Anything is still possible, this could be a monster

Agreed, not seeing any reason to lower my very high box office expectations from these reactions; the elements that made a Cameron blockbuster hit with the general audiences are clearly all there, perhaps done better than before.

Well we have to remember that A2 and A3 was actually one script that Cameron split into 2 movies.

A2 and A3 should obviously compliment each other very well.

True, earlier there was one positive reaction that was like: maybe a little too much on setting up sequel, I thought that was a little contrary to the whole "each is an independent story" narrative; but perhaps we underestimated how much A2 and A3 are interconnected, and if that is the case, A3 might be looking like a even more epic payoff.

The reactions so far would all be classed as positive reviews on RT, so i'm expecting critic reviews to at least match the 83 of the first film.

True but probably not matching that 83 Metacritic score though, which always seemed surprising to me considering the RT %, those all-time level WOM from audiences ultimately carried its box office though.

  5. Seemingly slightly below what I expected, but definitely good; but I'm also seeing multiple reactions (at least 3 now) claiming it's better than the first both visually but also emotionally, I think we need to see a few more waves of reactions to determine if these very first ones are somewhat skewed.

Review wise, I think these may be good enough to not negatively affect box office, we just need audiences to respond emotionally and be in awe of the spectacle, and so far it seems to definitely deliver on those fronts.

No offense to Cameron but I didn't want to wait another five years for this and there's always some kind of shit going down in the world.

Yes, this market condition, while not ideal, is good enough for Avatar 2 to be a massive success.

If market conditions do improve, that's good news for the sequels, set them up to drop very little or not drop.

Five years from now, who knows maybe China completely closes off its market from Hollywood.

48-hour negative Covid tests are required to watch a movie in many cities."
That can kill any movie no matter who director is.

Things are volatile right now and can change very fast.

I don't actually expect the 48 hour negative test things to be very prevalent and necessarily long lasting, and the rules seem to be all over the place among different provinces, and even cities; but I think the overall trend of bucking the draconian zero-covid policy and heading toward true reopening is clear enough. So really, the longer Avatar stays in theater, the more chances it has. Ironically, this might prove to be another Cameron's style "lengthy run", but not actually due to the lack of hype.

I also think theatres will reopen at a higher rate in the next 10 days in anticipation for A2's release, we'll see if that happens; but things have a habit of going in direction beneficial for Cameron, as we've seen.

Seems you are not type of guy who get addicted in twitter and watch the news

Ok I tell you what happened ,China break out the revoultion recent days to ask Government open the public place because of many reasons ,and facing the mad of people Government finally do the concession and open the public place recently, you can see what’s happening in China thread

Oh, of course I'm aware of all this, both the protest and the re-opening of certain public venues; I've posted in the China thread about this general topic many times.

What I was curious about is, will the extent of "cinema recovery" be fast enough to allow A2 to have a run nearing it's full potential (only 43.7% theatres are open, but increasing by the day). and even if public venues are open, would the "hesitancy" to visit theatres still remain in people's minds. I guess we will find out soon enough.

I notice that the actor who plays Loak, the child who from the trailers and posters is given the most space as if he has among the most important parts in this second film, never really promotes the film.
    I wonder why.

He does post about Avatar on his Instagram, sort of giving me "Dealing with some mental health issues" vibe.

Ncsoft China's president wants the people to experience avatar so much he's opening theaters they're saying.  Wow and it looks like a Cameron film will join the 200m OW club 😎😎 Cameron repeat business and all dominating multiplier next🏋‍♀️💯.  Woohooo!!

Come on! Come On I  want pandorians  to drive this new journway over a billion domestic. I hope I can get it in a 4dx theater

China is such a finicky situation that even though now there is reason to be optimistic, there are still so many factors at play that could just derail things... This makes tracking A2 China run both exciting and anxiety inducing!

I've never experienced 4DX, but I think you should be sure to save that for a second viewing or something, first viewing you might get distracted by all the effects etc.

I think it's probable that Avatar 2 gets at least another month, and has a reasonable amount of showing throughout Chinese NY:

    * This CNY's slate is probably not packed, we are not even 100% sure if Wandering Earth 2 is staying there

    * China Film Group's interest in promoting CINITY theatres is heavily tied into A2, they probably would want to it to play for a long time.

    * It almost feels like Cameron films have a tendency to avoids the worst scenarios, even in a tough situation, somehow things always turn out beneficial for it.
