  1. That's Marvel for you. They overuse greys and browns to add a veneer of realism, not realizing that the sets and environments need to pop whereas the magic and superpowers need to be toned down. The third act of Shang Chi is a perfect example of this. Muddy greys and browns everywhere (UGLY), and bright blowing energy blobs (UGLY) standing in for magic and superpowers. They need to reverse it. Make the magic and powers look realistic, and go apeshit with the environments.
  2. You guys are way overthinking this shit. It's a good trailer. Complain when we get a bad trailer or bad reviews. Until then, what's not to like? Parker can't handle it? Parker can never handle his shit. That's his MO.
  3. That only checks out in something like Valkyrie, where it's understood the entire movie is German converted to English. In something like Shang Chi, where there are obviously scenes in America where characters are speaking English...that excuse doesn't fly. It's just Marvel laziness per usual.
  4. Marvel keeps on getting away with bad effects work, so I'm going to keep harping on it. If you spend this much money, there's no excuse. And given the genre, it is important.
  5. you can want entertainment and still chafe at that 3rd act. You know what's not entertaining? Terrible CGI in a 200 mil movie.
  6. I liked it. Don't understand the hate. Other than the "noise" being mildly annoying, it has a great concept, good performances, and competent directing.
  7. Yeah, this is known. Slant Magazine isn't just snobbish, they even often hate on highly praised dramas. They don't like anything. They're a little bit like Armond White but not quite as buffoonish.
  8. Annoys the hell outta me that we're supposed to buy these characters would speak English the whole time. Hopefully trailers are hiding at least SOME scenes in Mandarin.
  9. Frankly I have no idea what people are mixed on about it. It's funny, entertaining, well-crafted, pretty well-written, and has enough heart not to become obnoxious. As far as the box office, another example of simultaneous strategies hurting more than helping studios, particularly WB. I think the $30 price for PA makes it so Disney films can still make money in theaters. But those going straight to HBO? Pfff. Only GvK made it to 100mil and that was due to "return to theaters" buzz among audiences. Conjuring 3 and Suicide Squad could've crossed the mark were it not for the MAX deal. And how many subs are they really adding per movie? Probably not many.
  10. More of the vaccinated will return to theaters if vax passes become a thing in theaters.
  11. It would've cracked 100mil pre-COVID. If Hustlers and other less bankable movies could it, Free Guy could. With Delta bringing us back to Feb numbers, there won't be a domestic 100 mil grosser again until Bond. That's right, unless we get the virus under control again, Shang Chi won't be hitting it either.
  12. Pretty dumb given that Logan and Deadpool have proven you can make money on a comic book movie with an R rating. And they were planning on PG-13 even before the pandemic.
  13. Yup. She tried to negotiate and they ignored her. Disney has always been greedy, but they've gotten worse with Iger retired.
  14. Looks just as bad as the original. Carnage isn't Carnage if he's not violent as hell.
  15. Am I the only one who thinks PVOD isn't tenable as a revenue stream for the industry should theaters go away? Only 1 percent of subs purchasing Jungle Cruise (only 2 percent in the case of Black Widow) is godawful. Between that and HBO Max only adding 10 mil subs in the wake of their announcement (half of which is probably churn), these studios are going to have to wake up to the fact that theatrical can't be replaced...not until people are willing to plop down $30 at home, which clearly they're not willing to do right now.
  16. Uhh...there's nothing campy about The Last Duel. I think everyone ragging on the hairstyles are just showing their ass about history.
  17. Yeah, there was no excuse for that one shot during the climax of Black Widow. As for Jungle Cruise, if CGI costs that much more than going to shoot on location in the Amazon or another jungle...then just shoot more of it for real.
  18. It's a legitimately great movie until they rush that third act and give us an entirely unnecessary floating fortress in the sky. I guess the idea is that the Red Room is like Russia's version of Shield, but still... They also really botched the effects in a key moment involving Yelena. Alas, it's merely a good movie.
  19. A good villain is paramount to a great superhero movie. Without it, it's simply a good comedy with a little bit of heart. Nothing wrong with that, but not a Great movie with a capital-G.
  20. I'll never understand why these streamers won't release official numbers, even good numbers. Netflix does on occasion, but they're BS.
  21. A-level Endgame Civil War Avengers Iron Man Homecoming Infinity War Winter Soldier B-level Far From Home Ultron Thor Guardians 2 Ant-Man Black Panther Iron Man 2 Captain Marvel Iron Man 3 Ant-Man and the Wasp First Avenger Ragnarok Guardians Doctor Strange Dark World C-level Incredible Hulk
