  2. @CayomMagazine A couple of shake-ups from Phoenix Fire Pictures: Soil, which was slated for a limited opening on July 17 and expanding nationwide throughout August, has now been moved to the beginning of November; Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery, in the wake of Soil's release change, and due to colliding artistic aspirations with other films in the same year (namely Soil and A Walk in the London Rain), has been postponed to another year. Debra Granik is also no longer slated to direct Adultery, getting instead the reigns to the eventual Shirley Jackson adaptation The Lottery; Dualheart, the Phoenix Fire Family Animation film originally slated for June, has also been postponed. It will be replaced by a TBA PFFA film.

  5. It had a pretty underwhelming opening weekend, but wom has been strong, so it always gonna play well during the Summer. Furthermore, it seems post-pandemic animated films have been even leggier than normal (Bad Guys, Puss 2, Sing 2, Mario being cases), so this must be playing in the movie's favor.
  6. Well, thankfully, lots of IP's are bleeding money now, so hopefully we can get the marketplace as it should be - balanced. IP without room for original and/or mid-budget films is the "Holl(o)w" in "Hollywood".
  7. Since when does something have to be a Tomorrowland when talking about original stories? There's such thing as a mid-budget film.
  8. It was the first live-action Pokémon movie. Online hype for that was absolutely massive. Around the time Pokémon was iirc the #1 or #2 highest selling crossmedia franchise in the world.
  9. Honestly I think online hype, memes and other modern trend stuff is increasingly notifying of real world hype nowadays. Pikachu in its time was victimized by the insane schedule it fought (literally opened two weeks after a $357 million opener) and by WB's incapacity to maintain a stable marketing campaign for it. I'm still convinced to this day that Pikachu, in a less crowded month and with better marketing, would have made much more. Off-topic aside, Barbie and Oppenheimer weekend will be glory.
  10. The audience shows up for what films are marketed towards them. The younger male audience not going for adult-skewing dramas is not helped by studios aggressively catering to the younger male audience in specific, with a high number of blockbustery, high ticket price choices that monopolize moviegoer priorities and leave little space for the mid-budget films. If you cater as well to diverse audiences, they'll show up. You can have both in a balanced world, but that's not what you get. A movie like No Hard Feelings would be making a lot more money than it is doing now even ten years ago.
  11. THE LEGEND OF HOLLIS BROWN Studio: Phoenix Fire Pictures; Malpaso Productions Loosely Based On: The song Ballad of Hollis Brown by Bob Dylan Director: Clint Eastwood Genre: Neo-Western/Drama/Romance Release Date: February 20, Y10 Theater Count: 3180 Rating: R Format: 2D Budget: $20 million Runtime: 110 minutes Cast: Clint Eastwood as Hollis Brown Angela Bassett as Venice Jackson Frances Fisher as Jane Plot Summary:
  12. And the fault of that is literally Disney's strategy to aggressively crowd the market with blockbusters, most of them belonging to same genre or big franchises, conditioning many moviegoers to be selective about what films they wanna watch in theaters, given inflation. The mid-budget film disappearing is not parallel with the ascension of blockbuster-heavy schedules (and streaming too) by coincidence.
  13. ...live-action? Lmfao, feel like this being animated would work much better, given that one of the most (if not the most) emblematic aspect of Minecraft is the blocky graphics artstyle. Especially in the wake of $1.3b-grossing Mario. I guess they'll try to sell it on Jason Momoa killing Creepers with an axe, but I feel like live-action cripples some of the potential for a unique film right away.
  14. Do you know the full numbers? And is Suzume still being updated?
  15. It should have solid legs. Don't see it making less than 60-70m DOM with a 20m OW and its kind of wom, being an original R-rated comedy, unless something like Barbie really knocks its legs over.
