  1. @CayomMagazine Soil, the new film from Aftersun director Charlotte Wells for Phoenix Fire Pictures, has wrapped production. Based on Arianna Reiche's short story of the same name - posted on Joyland Magazine in 2020 - it tells the story of a discreet hotel in London, England where a secret is kept by its management. The small cast features: Sabrina Bartlett (Knightfall, Bridgerton) as Anita Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal, Sins of Their Fathers) as Danny Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit, The Boy Who Hated Books) as Kir Soil opens in theaters on July Y10.
  2. I volunteer for Y15. (I'm probably gonna royally fuck it up tho.)

  4. @CayomMagazine AFI TOP 10 OF Y9 The American Film Institute is proud to reveal the ten best American films of Y9. The list was calculated based on both the Review Aggregate and Critical Consensus threads. Films who made both top 10's were automatically given a place in the AFI top 10; whereas other films were calculated by lowest sum of points, meaning higher placement. Without further ado, here's the list:
  5. A Thank You Note from Phoenix Fire Phoenix Fire Pictures is proud to have received five Academy Awards in the Y9 Ceremony, which took place last night. Congratulations, head and shoulders, to actress Jurnee Smollett and the editing crew of American Spy, for their Best Actress and Best Film Editing awards; to the makeup crew of the horror film Acne, which received Best Makeup & Hairstyling; to Soul Asylum, who wrote and performed the Best Original Song winning track Make You Care, for the film Runaway Train; and Lyric Cabral and producer Spike Lee, for their Best Documentary Feature recepient film War on Drugs: America's Modern Conflict. It is a massive honor and privilege for Phoenix Fire to have brought these awards home, and we're hopeful and expectant to continue working with these amazingly talented artists. Our congratulations also go to all of the other Oscar nominees, including the artists behind the remaining 32 nominations that Phoenix Fire snatched; and, last but certainly not least, we want to congratulate the winners of the various trophies, including Studio Groundswell for receiving Best Picture with their film The Mirage, Numerator Pictures for taking a potential record-breaking wins for their blockbuster The Queen Who Never Was. and Endless Entertainment for the awards it obtained as well. Our five Academy Award victories this year were our very first, and we hope to build on this legacy and continue delivering memorable and artful storytelling for a long, long time. Thank you so, so much for this honor!
  6. @CayomMagazine Mason Thames, of The Black Phone fame, has signed with Phoenix Fire Pictures to star as Jimmy Hopkins in Bully: Chapter I - Welcome to Bullsworth. An adaptation of Rockstar Games' 2006 title Bully, Welcome to Bullsworth tells the tale of a teenager who is dropped by his just married mom and stepdad in Bullsworth Academy, the toughest school in the country, and seeks to change its internal bullying culture. The film is set to release in Winter Y10. One other Rockstar adaptation, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, will hit theaters on the Summer of the same year.
  7. In 2021 those openings for Pope's Exorcist and Renfield would be okay Jokes aside tho, Pope's Exorcist could've done worse, considering the muted awareness and ongoing crime cases in the Catholic church. Renfield is the 2023 Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, though I think that movie was better received (I wasn't a fan, though).
  8. Shrek the Fifth. Also, an eventual Super Smash Bros. crossover (although I still defend to stay away from cinematic universes and just do a one-off crossover event if you really want it).
  9. @CayomMagazine In accordance with Gateways: The Children of Zenith's release date shift to Easter, and with an agreement with Endless Entertainment achieved, Phoenix Fire Pictures is moving Tatiana's Journey, the sequel to Mighty Fall, to May 1st, Y10. Tatiana's Journey stars Olivia Cooke, Naomi Scott, Finn Wolfhard, Dee Bradley Baker, Billy West and Viola Davis, and is directed by Mike Owens and Shadi Petosky.
  10. Can we please stop suggesting cinematic universes on every single franchise? If you wanna do Smash Bros., just do a one-off crossover with multiverse shit and be done with it. Cinematic universes have gotten old so quickly. Also, Zelda, Metroid and a few others should be live-action.

  13. Historic night for Phoenix Fire Pictures Phoenix Fire Pictures is thrilled and honored in the wake of the Year 9 Academy Award nominations, and would like to thank the voting members of the Academy for the 37 nominations the studio has received - a record-breaking number of nominations for a single studio in one year (the previous record holders being Blankments Productions @Blankments, Hourglass Productions @Ezen Baklattan and Numerator Pictures @4815162342, all of which had 33 nominations in one year - Blankments and Numerator for their Y8 campaigns, and Hourglass for their Y6 campaign; Studio Groundswell @SLAM!'s Y9 campaign matched the 33 nominations number as well). Phoenix Fire was launched in Y7 with the promise of releasing thought-provoking and enchanting works of cinematic art, and since then the studio has only grown, and we aim to continue to grow and release stronger and stronger works of art. Our growth has been evident since we started: in Y7, Phoenix Fire only had two Oscar nominations - for The Gift of Life, in Best Documentary Feature; and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, in Best Cinematography. That number grew to 12 nominations in Y8 - for the films Eminem-esque, Far Cry, Floodbath, The Lost Empire, Mighty Fall, Returning from Hell and Up in the Sky - and now, the studio more than doubled that previous outing. We are extremely grateful and thankful to everyone who has ever supported us. We would like to openly congratulate the film cast and crew of our nine films which received Oscar nominations this year. Ava DuVernay's American Spy and Alfonso Cuarón's Warmth led the studio's charge, with eight nominations for each, including Best Picture for both, in what are the studio's first Best Picture nominations. Special congratulations to DuVernay for snatching a Best Director nomination, and also to the ensemble cast of American Spy (Best Ensemble nomination), including double acting nominees Jurnee Smolett and Omar Sy (Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor nominations), as well as its film crew, for the Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing nominations. In regard to Warmth, congratulations to Cuarón for repeating DuVernay's feat and getting a Best Director nomination; to lead actor Robert Beltran and supporting actor Lee Soon-jae for their Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominations; to the film crew for Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing nominations; and also to composer Jung Jae-il, for composing the Best Original Score-nominated music for Warmth. No less important, we would love to congratulate the cast and crew of the following films: James Mangold's Runaway Train, nominated in five categories: Best Director (Mangold), Best Ensemble, Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix), Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Song (Make You Care); Christopher McQuarrie's Rocket Hero, nominated in four categories: Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects and Best Use of Action; Jake Hammond's Acne, nominated in three categories: Best Actress (Annalise Basso), Best Original Screenplay and Best Makeup & Hairstyling; Owen Dennis' Invader Zim, nominated in three categories: Best Animated Feature, Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Leading Role (Bill Hader) and Best Original Song (Fun, Fun, Fun); Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman and Gianluigi Toccafondo's Vixen and the Castle of Doom, nominated in three categories: Best Animated Feature, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score (Lisa Gerrard and Hans Zimmer); Tom McCarthy's The Next Good Day, nominated in two categories: Best Actor (Devin Druid) and Best Supporting Actress (Kirsten Dunst); and Lyric Cabral's War on Drugs: America's Modern Conflict, nominated in one category: Best Documentary Feature. Phoenix Fire would also like to congratulate the remaining studios recipient of nominations - Studio Groundswell, Numerator Pictures, Endless Entertainment @YM! and Good Movies Studio @lamamama - and wishes them the best of luck for the upcoming years. As for special announcements during the Academy Awards cerimony, while we can't promise anything, it is likely that we'll deliver the very first look at next year's Cloud Cuckoo Land, directed by Ridley Scott, an ambitious, large-reaching project that ventures into yet unseen storytelling devices in CAYOM.
  14. @CayomMagazine Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in advanced post-production at Phoenix Fire Pictures. The film is slated for a July 17, Y10 release, and has an assembled cast for its main characters: Jamie Foxx as Carl "CJ" Johnson O'Shea Jackson Jr. as Sweet Johnson (a younger version of this character) Craig Robinson as Big Smoke Jay Hernandez as Cesar Vialpando and Samuel L. Jackson as Frank Tenpenny While the studio's first GTA film - Y9's Grand Theft Auto, a loose adaptation of the first two games in the series - was not a critical hit and only made modest box office returns, Phoenix Fire is still confident in the artistic potential of the GTA series, stating that San Andreas, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life), will be a course correction to the series, in that it'll be a closer and more linear/straightforward adaptation of the game it's based on, while bringing in core elements of the game series, such as gang warfare - although it still takes a hefty amount of creative liberties as to adapt the game to a cinematic structure. The studio is confident with the ongoing production and believes it to have enough quality and nostalgia hype going for it to be a decent money earner during the competitive Summer season, despite the first film's lackluster box office.
  15. @CayomMagazine News from a recent scheduling change from Phoenix Fire Pictures: The Enormous Radio (dir. Christina Choe), previously set for July 17 Y10, will now release on May 8 Y10; Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (dir. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah), previously set for December 11 Y10, will now release on July 17 Y10; The December 11 Y10 now belongs to The Library of Babel, a speculative sci-fi fantasy drama directed by Amma Asante (A United Kingdom, The Prince of Egypt remake) and starring Dev Patel and Sasha Lane, based on the short story of the same name by Jorge Luis Borges.
  16. Per agreement with @Hiccup23, picking up the rights to Animal Farm.
  17. @CayomMagazine After announcing the cancellation of Arianna Reiche short story adaptation Soil, Phoenix Fire Pictures has reverted their decision and rebooted the project, with the helming now belonging to Aftersun writer/director Charlotte Wells, who will also write and direct Soil. This film will be released on July Y10, in an untraditional limited wide release of just over 1000 theaters on its opening weekend, expanding to over 2500 on the week after that. As for Leave No Trace, Paradise Island and The Space Between Trees helmer Debra Granik, who was previously tapped to direct Soil, her and Phoenix Fire have spun the original draft of the film - which strongly deviated from the source material - into its own standalone, original film , titled Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery. This film will be released in November Y10.
  18. The Trumpet of the Swan, by E.B. White and Soil, by Arianna Reiche (Yes, I dropped the rights to that and now I'm getting them back - I feel like I found a decent way to adapt the story. I'm an idiot lol)
