  1. maybe they took an informed guess that the French team would be out fairly quickly :DThanks for this thread! I usually get my French BO figures from JP, he's usually the first to repost the (paying) CBO figures...
  2. :(and then they'll do a soulless HW remake, which will fail, and Americans will wonder for ever what the fuss was about (actually no they won't, lol, they probably couldn't care less)Glad for Will Smith that MIB3 looks to be having an ok-ish start.
  3. It's the first beautiful weekend in like forever in France. And the media/cinemas are all about the Cannes movies. Not the best weekend to release a blockbuster.
  4. The Godfather(s).And worse than not having seen it... I think it looks really, really boring
  5. Hmm not a very good date for the US then. That and the bad reviews... it may have to remain a euro-success story.I'm fascinated by how wildly the reviews can differ for this movie.
  6. I'm not so sure, because Snow White is opening later in a few countries (mid-June in France, Russia, Japan). The international release schedule is such a mess this June...
  7. it is opening a week early (May 31/June 1st) in a lot of European countries, including France, the UK and Russia. So they'll have a chance to open strongly there before the Euro cup starts.
  8. Yes exactly - it's surprisingly shocking when they change the usual voice actor for whatever reason. I remember the voice actors for the Friends cast went on strike back in the 90s, and they ended up replacing Rachel's "voice". It felt all kinds of wrong. Interesting idea. European filmmakers may want to look into it if they ever want to really break the American market. Or they could just hire American actors I guess, but I bet the CGI option is cheaper!
  9. Yes we also have a really good dubbing system in France with pretty good voice actors.I think dubbing mostly has an "image" problem in the UK and in the US, not sure where it comes from. People just hate the idea. Which is a shame, maybe the US would be more receptive to foreigns movies if they were dubbed with American voices?
  10. Oh it's not about understanding the original version, it's about the idea of getting the "genuine" experience, because nothing can replace the real voices, or something like that. I think...
  11. I think dubbing is one of these things... you have to grow up with it to be able to tolerate it! :lol:Then there's the "snobbism" factor. Regular people rarely if ever go watch French movies in the UK, it's mostly a select audience of artsy intellectuals, who think dubbing is beneath them. We have the same phenomenon in France, most people watch their movies dubbed, except in Paris where theatres offer subtitled versions for the artsy fancy Parisians.I say that preferring subtitles myself, of course
  12. I've never seen a French movie dubbed in the UK, they always use subtitles as far as I can tell.
