The Box Office Buzz, Tracking, and Pre-Sale Thread
XXR vs XXR replied to Shawn Robbins's topic in Box Office Discussion
What’re the actual ticket sales so far? -
There’s a lot of inaccuracy surrounding the tours in online spaces. As best we can tell, Beyoncé has finished the Renaissance Tour (the final scheduled show was last night). She may announce additional shows for 2024 but so far that’s just online speculation. Her total gross/ticket sales = ~$600M / 2.75M, from 56 shows. The Eras Tour has so far completed 57 shows and she has another 89 scheduled over the rest of this year and through November 2024. We don’t yet know how much the first 57 shows made, but by my calculations the total for the 146 shows will be in the $1.4-1.6B range and around 8.8M tickets sold. EDIT: If we’re just talking about DOM (US/Canada) totals, it’s about $440M / 1.7M tickets / 35 shows for Renaissance vs $900M / 4.2M tickets / 68 shows for Eras.

My rough calculations tell me Renaissance ATP will be about 18% higher than Eras. Given the unusual announcement schedule and timing of tickets going on sale, it’s probably not worth trying to gauge demand for at least 12 to 16 hours. -

I’m a bit confused about what the Renaissance film is going to be. It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a pure concert film like TET. Definitely feels like they’re not maximizing its potential with some of the choices they’re making. -
Moderation Don't discuss plot points to a movie that just released.

In an effort not to do fandom wars type stuff, I won't get into a back and forth over box office potentiality since we will see the numbers bear out soon enough but if this even sells half as many tickets as TET I'd be pretty surprised. Online presence or not, one can just look into their sales/streaming numbers over the last year to see the massive disparity in their popularity. Beyonce has moved just over 6 million units worldwide in the last 12 months. Taylor has moved 44 million.

Unless there's some kind of drastic change coming, TET is "only" gonna do $115-135M. I think Beyonce would maybe do $50-60M. -

My sweet, sweet prince. It's going to make Marvel vs DC vs Star Wars look like Bob Ross had a disagreement with Mr. Rogers. -

Yep. This is my guess as well. Also can't wait to watch stan Twitter explode comparing her film box office with Eras Tour. -

Imagine Taylor's face on the gif. -
Speaking of 1989TV, what are we thinking for 1st week US sales? I'm going with 1.25-1.35M units. For non-music trackers, 1st week sales are akin to OW box office. In the US, 20 albums have moved more than 1 million units during opening week. In 2015, Adele had the "Avengers: Endgame" of openings by moving just under 3.5 million units in the 1st week. That was nearly 50% higher than the 2nd biggest 1st week ever. No one has ever gotten close to that number, and likely never will again. Even Adele's next album opened nearly 75% smaller. Taylor is the only artist in history with more than 3 first weeks over 1 million units sold, and has actually done so 5 times. By my count, 1989TV will become her 6th over 1 million first week sales. Her current personal record is her most recent total new album, Midnights, which moved 1.58M units its first week (7th biggest all-time). Midnights is also the only artist this decade to open to over 1M units. As streaming has become the go to form of music consumption, total units has slowly dropped. This has been your US music tracking TED Talk.
