Although I'm no fan of Rich Ross, I don't think the whole JC debacle should be put on him only...http://www.vulture.com/2012/03/john-carter-doomed-by-first-trailer.html
I agree with the Tangled comparisons but I'm a bit wary of what happened with animated movie's last year. It wouldn't shock me if no animated movies reach 200M again this year.
There will not be much going on at Paramount Animation because Stainton resigned back in February.http://www.cartoonbrew.com/business/david-stainton-resigns-from-paramount-animation.htmlPS: There is talk about a SpongeBob movie but its only talk for now.
As I said before, I don't doubt what you are saying and understand what you are saying but if the next five movies (see my prior post), assuming a budget of 130-150m per movie, that translates to roughly 650-750m production costs for all five movies. How can they keep their doors open while burning up so much cash working on all those projects?
I don't doubt Pinocchio's information but how could a studio like DWA operate with so little revenue and have one of the biggest (if not the biggest) animation head count staff. I mean they are releasing M3 and Rise of the Guardians this year and next year they are working on The Croods, Turbo and Me and My Shadow and the following year they are working on Mr. Peabody & Sherman and HTTYD2. How to they keep all of these animators on the payroll working on all of those projects while losing money the way it does with KFP2?
The international market has embraced the movie big time so why would Katzenberg change his plans for the series. If the movie had failed everywhere then I would agree with you but that's not the case at all. I think the domestic market hasn't flocked to animated movies at all this year so maybe what's happening isn't about the movie itself but something else like the economy or just plain old fatique for animated movies..
