  1. Villeneuve has said that although it is as a direct sequel as one can be, the movie was still made as to be understandable and able to to follow by those who haven't seen Part One
  2. On the phone, yes. I did not mean to blame the posters, but I read more than I wanted, and I was a bit pissed about it.
  3. Please don't post spoilers in this thread. Create a spoiler thread if need be. While the page is loading, even the spoiler text boxes briefly appear as normal text, so please, simply do not discuss spoilers in here. It's not cool
  4. I think anything over 500 million would be fantastic for Dune. I would be over the moon with a performance like Wonka
  5. So the last two posts above this throw budgets of 122 million and 200 million for this. Which one is it? 122 million seems quite low for the scale this seems to have (plus the stacked cast), but Arrival only cost 47 million, so Villeneuve seems the kind of director who can make the most out of a budget
  6. Gladiator was a movie with a very mediocre script that was greatly elevated by a great cast, great direction and production values and an absolutely star-making performance by Russel Crowe. In fact, I can't think of many big budget productions that were so crucially carried on the shoulders of its lead actor. He truly deserved that Oscar. Had they had any other actor in the lead role and the movie would've collapse on itself (imagine someone like Orlando Bloom). So I really think this sequel is missing the most crucial element in its predecessor's success, and that's Crowe
  7. I've said this before many times in this thread, but 500 WW would be a great result for this. Anything significantly over that would be fantastic
  8. Seems like it's trying to invoke Lon Chaney in London After Midnight. I am the only one getting this vibe?
  9. I meant perfect for a movie adaptation in relation to its length, not the material itself. It's still a hard book to crack for an adaptation
  10. And Dune Messiah is, for all intents and purposes, pretty much an epilogue for the first book. And it is much shorter, so perfect for a single movie adaptation
  11. They could try and be a bit more original and not always name these movies after the artist in question most famous song: Bohemian Rhapsody I Wanna Dance With Somebody What's Love Got to do With it and a slew of others...
  12. If we discount the final battle, that was barely described in the book, the first film actually covers around 60% of the book if going by page number. So I don't think it's necessarily true they have more to conver in Part 2 than they had in Part 1
  13. Regardless of what some people might expect, I still think 500 million would be a good result for this. 600 would be fantastic
  14. Will Gladiator 2 make its release date? I think they had just been shooting for about a month when the strike began. Still a long way to go
  15. Has happened before. Spacecamp, for example. Or Spiderman removing the Twin Towers sequence
  16. Plus with what is going on in the Middle East, it would probably garner all sort of takes regarding its metaphors and real world parallels that really wouldn't do the movie any favours
  17. Indeed. There's been doom and gloom about this project since it was first announced. The source material was too inaccessible, the first adaptation flopped, Blade Runner 2049 had flopped, then Covid forced a delay, then the simultaneous release on HBO Max, how it would never get a sequel. Truth is, it did get a better reception and box office results that a lot of us were expecting, not to mention it did indeed get a sequel, was nominated for 10 oscars and won 6. All and all, the final outcome in its reception was pretty great
  18. Do we have any sense how next year's high-profile movies line-up will be affected by the strike? I assume a lot of projects meant to be released next year have had to stop production
  19. This project really can't catch a break, can it? Part One delayed because of COVID and now Part Two delayed because of the strike
  20. I need to give that game a try, it's been on Early Access for over a year now. The tie-in products seem to be ramping up. There's a rumor that a Ornithopter LEGO set is being released in October, as is a new Art and Soul of Dune book and a brand new expansion for the awesome board game Dune Imperium. Speaking of which, if the expansion keeps its release date but the movie is indeed delayed, there should be plenty visual spoilers in the deck of cards in that game, as was the case with the first release of Dune Imperium
  21. It might not be the main reason for an eventual delay, but I do think increasing this movie's Oscar prospects is on the studios mind when considering a delay. Barbie and Oppenheimer are two genre movies with massive box office and extremely strong Oscar chances. This decreases, I think, Dune's Oscar chances, specially as I don't think we'll see an award season dominated by three genre movies. Not to mention other strong contenders, like Killers of the Flower Moon and whatever else might gain award momentum in the coming months. There's no way, for example, that Gerwig, Nolan and Scorsese are missing a Best Director nomination. With those 3 spots already pre-filled, I highly doubt Villeneuve would be able to squeeze in with yet another genre movie
  22. Napoleon's life is so absolutely filled to the brim with incident and memorable episodes, that it is impossible to portray the full scope of his life in a 2 or 3 hour movie. They should focus instead on a particular time or campaign. But this seems to be all over the place. From Toulon to Borodino, and possibly even beyond that. It seems to me that is a far too large a scope for a single film
  23. So they will make a decision on whether to delay the movie or not just two months before the current release date? Aren't they cutting it a little close?
