  1. I really though Cinematography nomination was pretty much a lock, and I wrote as much in this thread back in March last year, even though I didn't really like the movie. Makes me wonder if Deakins recommended Fraser to Villeneuve for Dune
  2. I agree. I wasn't too hot on the film itself, but it did look absolutely stunning and unique. Greig Fraser is one of the best DP's working right now
  3. Looks really formulaic. And of course, they had to do the most obvious thing and name the movie after Whitney's signature song. How original. Elvis and Rocketman were interesting music biopics. Bohemian Rhapsody was awful. This looks even worse
  4. If it tops out around $370M, isn't that enough to outgross it? The Batman grossed $369M, not $379M
  5. This Batgirl movie really needs to leak someday. I'd rather watch a bona fide disaster that another by number, pedestrian, unmemorable superhero movie
  6. As much as I agree and acknowledge that the PT is much more popular within a younger generation, not way it has ever reached nor it will ever reach the same level of popularity, cultural impact and artistic influence on subsequent generations filmmakers the same way the Original Trilogy did. It's not even comparable. The prequels are a popular trilogy, to be certain, but side by side by other contemporary film series that have had a similar or even greater cultural impact. The OT really stands on its own as a colossus. The same goes for the first Jurassic Park when compared to any sequel
  7. I already thought Jurassic World was pretty awful back in 2015. So much so, I have not even watched Fallen Kindgom
  8. I absolutely agree. As inferior as it is to the original Jurassic Park, the Lost World is still miles ahead any of the subsequent Jurassic Park movies. Not to mention the scores. Nothing in the franchise can touch John Williams's scores for the two first movies
  9. Jurassic Park has a fantastic premise and hook, but it doesn't really sustain itself after the first book and movie. Even Crichton's sequel novel is vastly inferior to the original. But no recognizable IP can just lay dormant or be done with these days
  10. Obi-Wan's characterization is the least of this show's problems. The writing, in particular, is absolutely awful. Reminds of those Kevin J. Anderson novels we used to get before the prequels were made. Disney is just desecrating a corpse, at this point
  11. Balde Runner 2049, which should be an equally technically challenging movie to make, began shooting in July 2016, wrapped next November and was released in October 2017, so it's a very similar production schedule to Dune Part II. Also, Villeneuve is a director that released three big productions in three consecutive years; 2015 : Sicario 2016: Arrival 2017: Blade Runner 2049 So he's clearly a fairly fast director
  12. It's a bit of a pity, as I think they have the perfect actor to play the aloof, playboyih, slightly comedic public side of the Bruce Wayne persona. Hopefully it will be explored further in the sequels
  13. Good to hear, but regardless, when adapting a book of this sort, you don't rely so much on the script being ready to have already done all the concept design and set building, as you know the broad outlines of where the story is going
  14. Of course, it what a discussion forum is all about I did not mean any offence to anyone who might enjoy this sort of aproach to the music
  15. The prequels used JW,s music in their trailers to great effect without having to resort to these sort of cheap tricks to make it "louder and more epic". Give the man's music some credit
  16. I can't believe people are praising the music. They took John Williams' unforgettable music and just made it sound louder, "with epic choir and power chords". It's trite and tasteless
  17. That's my feeling as well. I understand its theoretical place in the story and character arc, but the execution was quite lacking. A scene such as that was necessary to bring the story home, but it had to be much better executed. So what I think some of us are saying is not that scene should be cut outright, as the movie would indeed feel very incomplete, but rather it should've been executed in a very different way
