  1. Their archive also goes back a couple of years. Liked seeing James Gray talk to Scorsese about WOWS, Wes Anderson talk to Gray about The Immigrant, Todd Haynes talk to Linklater about Boyhood, Jim Jarmusch talk to Steve McQueen about 12YAS, etc.
  2. Well Tarantino at least develops his female characters before killing them off. And men die much more often in his movies.
  3. LAFCA just gave Best Actor to Fassbender (runner-up Geza Rohrig), Best Screenplay to Spotlight (runner-up Anomalisa).
  4. After seeing Bridge of Spies I don't believe there's any way Rylance wins the Oscar. Even if we don't count Stallone, he's just way too subtle and restrained and doesn't have that much screentime even by "supporting" standards. If Stewart keeps taking critics' awards, yeah, IFC should probably wake up and start doing some campaigning, if they aren't doing it already.

  6. Boyhood was just Linklater doing his very personal crazy thing and it only got nominated because the result was so impressive and practically impossible to argue with. It wasn't an Important Movie About Important Issues, wasn't really sentimental, barely had a plot, hell, its entire damn point was that it wanted to avoid the conventions of coming-of-age movies. Easy to take its nominations for granted now, but it's a mistake.
  7. Scott Tobias @scott_tobias THE REVENANT is like if THE NEW WORLD kicked you in the balls repeatedly for 156 minutes. It's Iñárritu's best since AMORES PERROS. Scott Tobias ‏@scott_tobias @scott_tobias Many are taking this as a recommendation. That is both not true (in that I didn't like it) and true (in that others might).
  8. So did you ever solve the mystery of how Boyhood lost BP to Birdman despite having a higher RT and a longer runtime?
  9. He's pretty much playing Bud White if he were a comedic character here.
  10. This looks like the Shane Blackiest movie that ever Shane Blacked. I am so in. Gosling's bit with the toilet stall door is fucking priceless.
  11. The Duellists, Alien, BR, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven DC is my Scott top 5.
  12. Would be nice to see Crowe in a good movie again. Since I haven't seen Noah, for me the last time that happened was probably when 3:10 to Yuma came out.
  13. I'll probably have that in my top 10. It's so entertaining in its stupidity and doesn't even realize it. That's practically a lost art these days.
