We really should do a version of this where no John Williams or LOTR scores are allowed lol. Nor even The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as it would be a clear winner in that situation.
Pet Sematary gonna finish under the 1989 version unadjusted (57.5m). No tears were shed. Maybe one day someone'll have the balls to adapt that novel faithfully.
Yeah I always skip it when listening to the movie's soundtrack but in the movie itself, goddamn. I'll always treasure the memory of watching it on the big screen a couple years back and feeling the stunned, dead silence in the theater after that scene ended.
Previous opening films include The Da Vinci Code, The Great Gatsby, Robin Hood and Grace of Monaco so. But at least this is included in competition for the Palme.

Peele has his flaws as a writer (tho I liked Get Out's script a lot more on second viewing) but he's quickly grown into a fantastic director. I mean his understanding of how to use film as a visual medium is second to none. I watched most of Us with a happy grin on my face just because of the craft.
Us doesn't borrow heavily from that episode at all. It uses it more as a jumping-off point.
I think it'll pass Get Out but it's definitely finishing under A Quiet Place now which blergh.
Thing is I also watched Heathers for the first time last year when I was 24. If only they'd told me there's money to be made from writing nonsense like that about it...
First Star Wars, now Chris Evans. Rian Johnson out here making everything better. Bless. Probably gonna utilize Jamie Lee Curtis better than Halloween '18 did too.
This is just not a story whose core is easy to сarry over into a commercial horror movie. You could argue it's not even possible. The novel goes into some dark, dark territory and you lose the whole point if you try to soften that, but both the '89 movie and this go chickenshit at key points.
