  1. The phrase 'burning through 21.7m' suggests to me that they are talking about the sum total of money they spent each month, of which most I assume was going straight into the pockets of the theatres. Take this with a big ol' grain of salt, though. I am no expert on SEC filings.
  2. Said article about the billion dollar debt says this: Previous SEC filings revealed that the company was burning through an average of $21.7 million every month operating MoviePass. In May it blew through $40 million. That'd come out to around 250m, which I'll concede is a pretty hefty slice of the pie at 2.5% of the yearly box office. Still, when you spread that out over everything that has come out over the year I still doubt it would have turbocharged the releases this weekend. They might have come in a couple of million higher but not enough to turn the tide.
  3. It's soooo good. Digging that movie so much has unfortunately made for a painful couple of months with the constant railage of BOT's "IT BOMBED" brigade.
  4. This First Man love train is an excellent way to start my Christmas morning.
  5. I just don't buy it. It's been a while since MP went belly-up and in that time we've had loads of movies putting up crazy numbers. A-List and stuff are still around and kicking, so it's not like idea of cinema subscription disappeared with MoviePass. I think it's more of a failure to connect than anything else. Time and time again this year we've seen that if something really clicks, people are more than willing to go wild for it.
  6. Oh yeah. Merry Christmas and all that jazz since the calendar has just flicked over onto the 25th down here.
  7. Rewatched Leave No Trace and it's still hella good. It's so empathetic and the performances are so great. Shit is the real deal.
  8. MoviePass had a few million users at its peak. It would add, if we are being ridiculously generous, like 30m to a movies gross. I really think some BOT users exaggerate how big of an impact that company had.
  9. Some nice self-reflection going on in here, which I think the guy from Free Solo could really benefit from because what in the name of god is he doing. Did find the film really captivating though. And I'm never gonna complain about an hour and a bit of beautiful moving pictures of Yosemite.
  10. I'm heading out of the house to go see Free Solo so I trust that you will all be responsible and keep this proverbial train firmly on its rails.
  11. Moderation: This thread has gone way off the rails so I think it's about time that we get back to talking about box office and stuff rather than Han's sex life.
