  1. Harper: Good evening, everyone. We're proud to announce the nominees for the Y8 Academy Awards. Scott: It really is amazing what you can do when people are anxious to seek out validation. Harper: It only took a few hours to finish those ties up. Scott: Those wait? Harper: Never mind. Scott: Anyway, we don't normally present at night. Figured it might be a fun experiment though. Let's give it a try and see what happens. We've even got some nice graphics. Scott: Some what? Harper: I fear we're on the same page more often than not. Please distract us before we spiral into existential horror. Scott: Let's start with Voice Acting. The nominees for Best Supporting Voice Performance are...
  2. William Jackson Harper and Naomi Scott will be live to present the Academy Award nominations for CAYOM's eighth incredible year at 10:00pm EST.
  3. The votes have been cast, and the nominees have been decided. Well, almost all of them. We've got a few tiebreakers to sort out. PM me your pick to break the ties below, ranking 1 for your first choice, 2 for your second, and so on. I will accept ballots up to Sunday, August 29th at 11:59AM EST. However, if I recieve all of them sooner, you'll get nominees sooner! I'll try to give at least 24 hours notice for the nominations announcement, though, so you can know when they're happening for sure. I know you're all excited, so I'll cut the formalities. Here are your Y8 Tiebreakers: If your films are on the cusp....good luck.

The Night House is a bit ahead of The Forever Purge, and The Protege is looking like a nonstarter here. Reminiscence, though....jesus christ, there's no excuse for those numbers. It seemed like the exact kind of film people would watch on streaming, and it's about to pay the price big time.
  5. The Tuesday show sold 45 tickets so far in a 100 seat auditorium.

  7. It's time to get the ball rolling on this! For new users, it's time to nominate films for the Y8 academy awards! The process is simple. Just select five (or three in categories with an asterisk - i.e. Best Animated Feature) nominees for each category and send your ballot to me in a private message! Refer to the FYC thread with any questions on individual film eligibilities. Of course, your options for votes are not limited to what's in that thread. Best Picture Best Animated Feature* Best Documentary Feature Best Director Best Ensemble Best Actor Best Actress Best Supporting Actor Best Supporting Actress Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Leading Role Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay Best Original Score Best Original Song Best Cinematography Best Film Editing Best Production Design Best Costumes Best Makeup and Hairstyling Best Sound Mixing Best Sound Editing Best Visual Effects Best Use of Action *Due to limited competition, Best Animated Feature only has three nominees. All other categories have five. After all ballots are submitted, (there is no deadline at the moment, but I will say I'd like to wrap up the nomination process at least before the end of the month at the absolute latest. I will tabulate and run tiebreakers, where we will etch out what gets the final spot. More details shall follow once all ballots come in! For now, just get your ballot ready and we'll let the fun begin! Ballots are now being accepted. May the odds be ever in your favor.
  8. I mean...The Green Knight is already doing far better than I expected a month ago. It's not like In The Heights where it seemed like a huge hit on paper. A few huge presales in major cities (where most of the target audience for such movies live) got our hopes up higher than they realistically should have been tbh. Hindsight's always 20/20 but that's a good number for TGK if not the huge breakout a few theaters hinted it might be.
  9. I mean, your comps could lead to around $2-2.5m for Thursday previews and $7.5-10m for Friday, just hope the ITH comp works best here.

With both days included, it's at 65% of Old and 112% of Snake Eyes. The primetime shows are near capacity on both days, but the late night and matinee screenings are still relatively empty. This isn't going to be too frontloaded so not surprised by this. With both days included its at 195% of Old, 167% of The Boss Baby 2, 191% of Peter Rabbit 2, 336% of Snake Eyes, 132% of In The Heights, and 142% of the Conjuring: TDMMDI. Averaging those comps gives us about a $12m Friday. That seems a bit optimistic, but it definitely is tracking well. I think it can get to high 20s for the weekend.

Most adult dramas released since things began to open up haven't fared all too well. The Green Knight, on the other hand, is actually off to a promising start here. It has more young adult/milennial appeal compared to Stillwater, undoubtedly tied to the studio distributing it, but I think it can actually outgross Stillwater over the weekend. I don't think Zola sold a fraction of the tickets at this point, and while showtimes were far more limited, it's actually ahead of Snake Eyes! (Thursday is 96% and Friday is 53% of where Old was on Monday!) Jungle Cruise is well ahead of everything else from last weekend and is continuing to build ticket sales nicely. Most sales are for XD showings, but standard screens aren't slacking that much. I don't have many good comps for this, but we all know it's going to readily win the weekend without much of a fight. (It could honestly win the weekend from its Friday number alone at this point!) Thursday/Friday combined: 138% of In The Heights 227% of Peter Rabbit 2 294% of Old The Suicide Squad Tracking Date Showtime Date Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats % Sold 7/26/2021 7/29/2021 0 9 71 1234 5.75% 7/26/2021 7/30/2021 0 19 48 1924 2.49% Most of these tickets are for XD. The standard 6:20, 8:40, and 9:30 Friday shows at one of the two theaters have yet to sell a SINGLE ticket. 9 were sold for evening XD shows. Compared to Jungle Cruise at the same point in time... Thursday: 71 for TSS, 36 for JC (97% higher) Friday: 48 for TSS, 42 for JC (14% higher) TOTAL: 119 for TSS, 78 for JC (53% higher) Maybe sales will spike once reviews get out if they're strong as GOTG, but....

Old seems to be doing decenetly compared to past horror films, so will have to keep an eye out. Snake Eyes should have a bit more prowess once the other theater gets added. Snake Eyes sold well on the IMAX screen locally so keep an eye out. And yet...we have the other two films. Jungle Cruise has actually sold one more ticket than Suicide Squad so far at the two cinemarks, but I'll include the local IMAX/DOLBY screens at the biggest AMC in the area to give another opinion.

Its Thursday previews are lower, but Friday is higher. The sum of both days is about 14% higher than Peter Rabbit., and 90% higher than Spirit. Both would suggest a weekend around $11-12m, but I think it can go a bit higher. Purge, though...is at 10% of the Conjuring. It'll obviously do better but yeah, don't expect anything close to a breakout with these numbers.
  17. @CayomMagazine Singer Sara Bareilles will join the cast of Taika Waititi's THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. Rumor has it she may also write an original song for the film.
  18. Yeesh, at least hoped WOM would save it a little. Good mourning, Usnavi.
  19. My final thought is that so many movies go on to stand the test of time and find a beloved audience despite poor box office at the time. In The Heights is a wonderful film that will find a loving, lasting, audience, and these box office numbers don't have the final say on that.

Tomorrow, we've sold 285 for Heights, 215 for Peter, and 71 for The Hitman's Bodyguard. I'm honestly wondering if the HBO release hurt this more than, say, Godzilla v. Kong or Mortal Kombat, which had more explicit characteristics of being a must see tentpole in theaters. It's not too far behind the Conjuring, though, and it's selling well in NYC, so I think $20m is still doable, and WOM will be very promising.
