  6. @4815162342 sorry but Blank takes precedent because he had the #1 film; can you pick something else?
  7. @Blankments, @4815162342, and @SLAM! (in that order), you've all made my favorite films of Y8, and as such, you get to pick a pre-read of mine. Numbers, you can keep your Aquarius pre-read or swap it out for a second pick in one of the six films below. Note that casting is not final yet for these films: CASSIA OF THE NIGHT (Drama/Romance/Fantasy) (dir. Celine Sciamma) Cassia, an immortal drifter in 1980 New York City discovers an underground scene of vampires living within the city, keeping at peace with the mortals among them while fending off those who wish them dead. When Cassia falls for a fellow creature of the night, she begins to question the life she has led for over four hundred years and face a world conditioned to fear her with her true voice. DANSE SAUVAGE (Musical/Biopic) (dir. Hanelle Culpepper) A stylish, musical (a la ROCKETMAN) biopic of Josephine Backer and her years in France from the early 20s and her rise to fame in the city. In addition to becoming one of the most famous black singers of her time, she would go on to become one of France's greatest assets against in the resistance to the fascist regime of Nazi Germany. FRANCIS (Animation/Sci-Fi/Comedy) (dir. Owen Dennis) A young married couple threatening to collapse under the weight of their collective problems is invited to test a new product by a prolific tech company, a robotic friend named Francis. When Francis turns out to be far more powerful than imagined, they're forced to put aside their issues and help their creation save the world from a force who sees a means for exploitation in the self help android. INNER VOICE (Horror) (dir. Jen and Sylvia Soska) VERY loosely inspired by the novel Be More Chill, A lonely young man in High School discovers a secret pill that will help him unlock the secrets to social success by installing a special monitor inside his brain. It seems to work incredibly well, at first, but the more he relies on it guiding the way, the more he loses of himself and the further he descends into a nightmare. THE PRODIGAL CHILDREN (Comedy/Sci-Fi/Thriller) (dir. Claire Scanlon) Two children used as psychological experiments in WWII are released into a seemingly normal life, until they become television stars in the 1960s for their incredible, godlike abilities. Life couldn't be sweeter for this family, but when the CIA tries to loop them into Cold War shenanigans, their façade slowly begins to crack in dramatic, darkly comedic ways. THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN (Comedy/Drama/Fantasy) (dir. Taika Waititi) Five strangers who died in freak accidents over the course of a given day are chosen at random by a playful archangel. They wake up in a strange facility, one that presumably used to have a Sears. It soon comes to their attention that one of them will be given the chance to live again, but who?

  9. Ezen Baklattan's Infinite Playlist --A CAYOM TOP 25-- It's that time of year again. No games. No gimmicks. Well, I guess one gimmick. Every film in the top 25 will be paired with a song as well as a small review. I can provide more in-depth analyses upon request, but I won't have as much free time as I did to review these films. Like with before, there will be offerings of pre-reads for the top 3 filmmakers. @4815162342 has existing arrangements to read Aquarius that I need to deliver on, but who will get a third slot? Only time will tell. I might not drop options until tomorrow, though. Small disclaimer: I read a few films during the festival circuit that that I gave certain grades too. I didn't do a full revisit on everything, but a few grades did shift up or down respectively. Also, two honorable mentions got a 3/5, the others got a 3.5/5. I will post full scores after the list reveal. Without further ado, the honorable mentions.
  10. @CayomMagazine The second announcement for AFFINITY's debut slate will be Claire Scanlon's dark dramedy THE PRODIGAL FAMILY. The film follows a married couple (Bill Hader and Rachel McAdams) and their child (Roman Griffin Davis) in 1960s America who have taken over the cultural landscape for their incredible psychic and life affirming powers. When the CIA seeks to use them as living weapons in the cold war, they're forced to reckon with the target that fame has placed on their backs, along with the traumatic events that inspired their powers in the first place.
