  1. I guess some people don't give a fuck about context. Some movies make a billion. Cool. Take a look at a movie like IT. It made about $700M. On a $30M budget. To me that's a bigger story than a movie that cost $200M+ to make and hundreds of millions in marketing crossing a billion. If TLJ didn't cross a billion than something went TERRIBLY wrong...
  2. Jumanji is kicking ass and chewing bubblegum and it's about all out of bubblegum.
  3. Damn, the middle ground here really is lost forever. Tired of the people coming in with their snappy retorts like oh how will Star Wars survive. There is a middle ground. It didn't make as much as it could have. It's more divisive than the last one. It fell off quite a bit overseas which is more concerning than what is going on in the states. That plus it looking like the Solo movie is not going to be spectacular. There's nothing wrong with saying it could have been more.
  4. @Claire of Themyscira The first step to moving on from an ex is to not discuss the ex. When you truly reach happiness without him, you'll have a good time and he won't be on your mind at all. Happy New Years
  5. It's all relative. It's like when a horror movie cost $30M and makes $700M. That is an eye opener. A movie that needs $800M+ to break even and people are going to expect different results. TLJ will make Disney a bunch of money. But it's making less especially overseas than everyone thought. That's why these discussions are happening.
  6. a shade over 19M? Really? That's pretty damn low. No, I don't believe TLJ is going to hurt the Star Wars brand but my question of overseas.. did it help further the Star Wars brand? Nope.
  7. TLJ at $800M is somehow "in the black" but other movies with similar or lower production costs needed that to just "break even" .... remember?
  8. Can't compare Star Wars to Marvel. Star Wars has plenty of source material most of which however they refuse to use. Marvel has literally hundreds of characters and 50+ years of source material to draw from. Marvel can go in any number of directions moving forward. Star Wars should have an expanded universe as well but we see no signs of them exploring it. The first two spin offs are of an event surrounding the first film and a Solo chapter. Marvel gave audiences Guardians of the Galaxy and made a near billion dollar brand out of them.
  9. People stuck on this "TLJ is still a huge success!" are kinda missing the point. It is still a huge success. But it also saw it's OS numbers drop worse than domestic. They are supposed to be expanding the OS, not killing it.
  10. The fact that Jumanji is doing so well against TLJ is surprising and says a lot about what Disney presented this time around. And I liked TLJ.
  11. I don't think this is disappointing at all. What happened is that people set themselves up to be disappointed. There was no way to match TFA or come close to it. That's once in a lifetime. If the Star Wars numbers continue to dwarf every other franchise there's no issue.
  12. Marvel movies arguably did reach their peak with The Avengers. But credit to them they have found ways to reinvent themselves a little bit and find creative ways so that not every movie looks and feels the same. Infinity War has a chance to reach peak levels. But a couple things as we look to the future. So far they have not had to recast Stark and Cap. Eventually they will have to do that. And that will be challenging maybe more than then what Star Wars is facing. People laugh at DC for getting Justice League wrong but this is the 3rd or 4th time now for Batman. They've drank from that well for decades. For the most part, it's worked out very well. Disney will face new challenges for both Star Wars and Marvel over the next 5 years and it'll be interesting to see where they go with those properties.
  13. I think Disney is going to run Star Wars into the ground... not literally because it will always make money but I an see the next trilogy being a big "yawn" at the box office. I'm not looking forward to those discussions.
  14. I don't think laughing is the right way to go about it but when you consider TFA made over $900M it would be way more of a drop off than most were expecting and I personally do not think Episode IX is going to see an increase. Then after episode IX.. who knows. Star Wars will always put up impressive numbers but TFA was maybe a once in a lifetime run.
  15. Ehhhh there's a lot of people who are off now. We need to see more obviously but I've been saying I never bought the "it's all bots man!" story that's been floating around. There is some negativity surrounding this film.
  16. These meltdowns are fantastic. Just in time for the holidays. Keep them coming..
  17. What were you guys expecting from this anyway? It had no shot at getting anywhere near TFA a once in a generation hype machine..
