  1. It probably helps too that (assuming reports are correct) that like other talents involved with WB movies going to Max this year, Gunn won't be screwed in backend pay.
  2. This and BOP probably were the results of WB's lessons taken away from Logan and the Deadpool pictures I guess? That and with TSS, didn't Gunn say he wanted it and WB gave him the greenlight? Of course with BOP, I would argue that movie didn't need to be R as it is. From what I understand about TSS, it wouldn't be the same without it (ala Deadpool.) Am I mistaken?
  3. I just don't get why people listen to Trace Dandruff. Terrible person who adds nothing to the discourse. Not to mention annoying if one is foolish (or masochist) enough to try to listen to her talk.
  4. TSS should've had Lebron James as Rims McDonald, a Squad member who quits on the team to join Starro.
  5. This opening (ignoring the obvious caveats) less than BOP would be stunning.
  6. At this point, TSS matching BOP’s opening (33) would be a win.
  7. I'm not sure Chapek this fresh into his regime is going to get axed, especially over this.* I mean hell lets remember what it took to remove Eisner back in the day, when it took a snowballing of several screw-ups over many years (EuroDisney, Ovitz, Disney America, Disney California Adventure, the Disney toons/movies going downhill in quality and popularity, etc.) before picking a fight with Pixar was such a WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!? move that allowed his internal/external enemies to topple him. "DisneyWar" is a good book on Eisner btw if anybody wants to go inside baseball on Disney history of that era. If he keeps doing crap like this though, he won't last. *=Of course Ike Perlmutter infamously played hardball (more like absurd ball considering his more notable cost-saving tactics like firing employees who left office lights on when exiting rooms) and even he got out-maneuvered eventually. "Yeah I won't pay RDJ his big check for Civil War that probably would net us a billion bucks box office!" was crossing the Rubicon for him. Iger must've heard that and realized he had somebody threatening to cost Disney a dollar to save a nickel and thus removed him from the creative chain of command. If Chapek was boss back then, he would've applauded Ike.
  8. People have compared him to 2000s-era Eisner but at least Eisner had some sort of a positive track record before everything derailed whether it be saving Disney or making it the monster that it grew to be. What I find interesting is that first Wrap article, Chapek’s alleged logic that Marvel movies’ Box office didn’t give Disney stock a bump so why not do PA with D+? That sort of short sighted approach reeks of his handling with the parks.
  9. Remember when we thought they would kick up promo big time after SJ2 opened? Good times.
  10. Dumb question: what’s the TSS budget, or the one they’re giving?
  11. Or go back further, the Gunn firing which I’m sure King Kevin didn’t approve of (“sure mess up my slate, boss!”) He has sway but ultimately his employers (who sign his checks) make the final calls. Dude should give TED talks on how to monologue without actually saying anything.
  12. Franchise war soldiers gotta soldier. You and I know circumstances screwing most movies out this year (some more than others) is out of control for these studios. Streaming is these outfits doing what they can, even if it’s making piracy easier which further eats the bottom line. it sucks.
  13. A perverse part of me wants it to open $33m, same as BOP did just for franchise symmetry reasons.
  14. Oh it absolutely positively is. But we rarely get official streaming data outside of investor days, so I find it interesting even if parsing said PA numbers you can poke holes through it.
  15. No PA (and much less piracy) I like to think it would've passed 200 but that's purely academic at this point.
  16. Cocaine. Jokes aside, it’s that industry’s addiction to IP regardless of said IP has been successful or not. I mean rebooting Batman or Planet of the Apes, at least they were proven commodities are one time.
  17. There is an absurd symmetry to this potentially opening on par with BOP’s $33 million which feels like from a whole other world and not a year and half ago.
  18. I mean last weekend (a July weekend with #1 doing $16 something million) people threw babies into the air. Of course GK feels like the sort of online film culture darling where mental gymnastics could potentially go for the gold this side or an IP fanboy property if it stumbles or it’s mainstream appeal is limited.
