She's doing an A+ job lately proving that she has no future re: her political ambitions, knowing all of this would come back to haunt her (and given society's double standards towards women, would actively sink her chances).

    Fran's social media is cringe, using Gr8 instead of great makes her look like a fuddy duddy who can't use technology.

    I think it is possible to do Marvel and Star Wars movies on a cheaper budget so long as quality is there as 200m a feature just isn’t sustainable right now. For characters like Blade, Shang-Chi, Daredevil, Hawkeye, etc - an 100m to 130m budget can work. You could do a 150-175m budgeted Cap or Hulk and save 200m for big sequels and characters.

    Star Wars has never been a cheap franchise, even the first film was $11m which was still $3m overbudget. 

     

    Marvel is dependent on the character, Spider-Man can't be done for under $150m for example and a new X-Men film probably isn't going to be cheap either.

The 150-200m reports are not just what goes to make the movie but things that tend to be hidden in reporting like bonuses which no other mainstream animation studio gives to their employees, executives salaries, making new animation techniques that get used on in latter films and what is needed to keep the lights on.
     

    Also currently, they’re the only animation studios right now still doing production in the US as most studios gone overseas to avoid paying normal fees as well as the only ones that are really trying to do new IP. I do think maybe doing 2 movies a year vs three every year will help with that.

    With Elemental, you can see the budget on screen as well. I think if people want animation jobs to stay in the US, they shouldn't be calling for Pixar or WDAS to cut their budgets.

Meanwhile other studios have some animated gems with less than half the budget. I really don't know why the budget for these films are that high. 20th Century is the only one that has had a decent budget for their films sans Avatar and as you mentioned they either have been relegated to streaming fodder or their output has been subpar.

     I don't think you can make Marvel or Star Wars on the cheap without a noticeable dissolution of quality and cutting WDAS and Pixar budgets would see backlash. People go on about Illumination and SPA but in the case of the latter, the stories about the work conditions is a sign that cutting budgets isn't always a good thing.

    Being too negative is one thing but some people on here with others take that to another level. It doesn't hurt to have happy thoughts once in a while.

    Could be a coincidence.  But, man, timing smells... interesting is how I would put it.  Hell, could be that a deal is in fact "all but done" and Lionsgate wanted to be the first out of the gate and get a leg up on competition when it comes to promotion.  "Daylight's burning" as the phrase goes.

     

    As for asking for a waiver a month ago?  Think if that was the case they would have tried harder to get it sped up since Saw X was coming out around then.  But, yeah, could have been applied a while back.

    TBH Expendables 4 was doomed either way and Saw X wouldn't have needed much promo from actors since it's a long running franchise. Hunger Games is really Lionsgate's last hope for 2023.

    Personally I get the feeling we're gonna see a bunch of decent performers and a few underperformers but no breakouts this holiday season.

    I suspect it's probably a bit too late to move Migration although it's not being released in many markets until February so there's a chance it could move.

    Wish and Wonka seem like the best breakout choices. The latter has good awareness and trailer views as well as a wide open slate for Christmas though a press tour would skyrocket it, and the former turned it around with an 11th hour marketing campaign promoting the music - all it needs is good reviews and good audience reception, which if it doesn't isn't anyone's fault but the movie. Both if they get good reception, should be within 200m domestic, the latter maybe moreso 350m.

     

    Also think Migration, Aquaman and Songbirds can breakout as the former has Illumination which has usurped Disney as family film powerhouse, the middle is the first dude skewing in months and if it's decent can drum up decent business and the latter if as good as test screenings are saying, with The Marvels looking to die a last minute press tour could get it to 60m or even 70m OW. I thought Trolls had the juice at one point but it's not seeming to catch on as much as I thought.

    Migration won't do badly but I don't think it's going to be another SLOP or even Sing. 

     

    I do find it funny that people are so down on Disney even though Wish looks like a hit.
