  1. Man, I wish I'd been around when you were taking submissions for this... Pratt would have topped my list. I'm on board if it happens again somewhere down the line!
  2. Oh, wow! I was already excited for The Belko Experiment, but knowing that James Gunn wrote it?
  3. Her coat seems to be from the Passengers set, it's got the Homestead logo on it
  4. I haven't read it, but I've seen a huge amount of love for the book (and the author's other works) online, mostly from YA readers. A lot of those people have also said it wasn't what they were expecting at all and that it's kind of difficult to specify the genre, so I guess it makes sense that they've had trouble figuring out the target audience.
  5. This movie has been so much fun to watch with a big audience. Everyone gets so into it. One time there was a guy who was yelling and a big round of applause at the end, and about two seconds later a girl behind me exclaiming "it promotes rape culture!", her boyfriend going "what?!" and the two of them launching into the debate immediately. Also, every time I've gone to see it (three times),
  6. I think so too, and I also think the movie might have been easier to promote if they'd been upfront about it.
  7. Spaihts said he added a little moment to the ending during post production, so that would have to have been part of it at least.
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if this underperforms, but for Hiddleston's sake I hope it does well. He could really use a hit at this point.
  9. I just posted this review in the review thread and I was this close to tagging you in it cause I thought you'd like it
  10. This behemoth is a very worthwhile read: Wall of text incoming (I tried and failed to cut this down any further ): I'm personally not big on framing the values the movie presents as a lesson, because there's a moralizing aspect to that that I find difficult to swallow. I don't go to movies to be told how to live my life, and I don't think this movie is trying to do that, but these ideas really resonate with me. I consider myself an individualist, but I absolutely feel that, as this guy says, the most important things in life are not our dreams or desires, but other people. And that's probably at the heart of why I loved this movie.
  11. Do it! It's a lot of fun mulling it over. I'll admit I've been hoping the controversy would help give it some pretty nice legs
  12. The trailer didn't appeal to me, but with all these reactions it sounds promising! Will probably check it out. Edit: that might have had something to do with the fact that the trailer was dubbed...
  13. They were always selling the "mystery of why they woke up" angle ("there's something they didn't tell us"). I doubt most people heard that line and thought "I bet there's something really edgy about this romance". If they really wanted to use the premise to draw people in, I think they would have gone further than that. Either way, I think there's more to this movie than pretty people on a pretty spaceship, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that.
  14. But that edge wasn't part of the sales pitch. They were actively trying to hide it and selling the movie alternately as a romance and as an action flick, so I think it's safe to say they did believe straightforward romance sells.
  15. If that were the case, don't you think they would have skipped the controversy and just gone for a straight up romance?
  16. I hadn't noticed that about the ending! I'm really hoping for a director's cut too. Right now I'd love to read the shooting script to see what didn't make it through post. Also, I feel like we've neglected to mention what is clearly the most important issue: how crazy hot they were together. That table makeout practically had me screaming internally. The fact that the actual sex scene was so short, though.
  17. Late to the party, but I agree (surprise!). Don't wanna miss another chance to defend the ending.
  18. If you like 3D I'd say it's worth it, the action sequences (not to mention the sets) are pretty cool. I personally didn't think 3D added much, but I'm the kind of person who stops noticing it after five minutes. (Luckily for me, Pratt's shower scene takes place within the first five minutes )
