Was doing some quick research and I just now realized that at the time of release THE MUMMY RETURNS had the second biggest opening weekend of all time ($68,139,035), coming pretty close to THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK ($72,132,785). Didn't know that movie was so big. Of course, it was the annual big first weekend of May release for that year too (May 4, 2001).

I'm thrilled with that $105.9M OD number! It sure reflects how crazy my theatre was.

Would mean a record $66M true Friday! That would also just edge out STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI for the 2nd biggest opening day.

I really really want that true Friday record so I'm hoping for an opening day of $103M. I don't actually care too much about the opening day record, or the opening weekend for that matter, as I accept that Star Wars is just a presales monster, which gives it a boost as far as those records are concerned.

$95M would be shocking. That would mean only a $56M true Friday, which is the same as AoU had.

Crimes of Grindelwald for me. I'm one of the few who thinks it will actually increase! I think it'll narrowly beat out AQUAMAN. -
Ah, so this is the movie we will see way down the list behind a bunch of holdovers when Labor Day weekend actuals come out. Last year we had two epics! TULIP FEVER and the CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND 40th Anniversary re-release! Yahoo!!
