Looks delightful

Sure enough it was. It's a ton of fun with a clever script and playful directing. A few too many scenes that rely on heavily CG'd environments but it never loses track of the characters.

Seeing this now, hoping it's a blast.

I do have to say I've admired the series more than I've loved it. The action is obviously spectacular but the longer the series goes on the more I feel it verging on being exhausting. I thought they'd be stretching the simple premise when they were making a third film, then I liked Parabellum quite a bit, despite that it didn't really accomplish a lot to bring John Wick's story forward after the cliffhanger at the end of 2. Then I really thought they were stretching it making a fourth so when I heard that it was almost 3 hours long I was sure I was gonna give up. Obviously the plotting is spinning wheels like a motherfucker to keep things happening ("go here to do this but to do that you first have to do this"), but god damn the action rules lol. Donnie Yen stole the show and by getting fight scenes from more POVs than merely John Wick, the extended runtime never felt exhausting. The dialogue scenes explaining lore stuff is a bit snoresville, but they do a good job of putting in visual elements to make the visuals more interesting. But come on now, the final hour is an attempt to top everything this film, and the previous entries, have achieved and the result is a textbook example of the intense adrenaline rush other action films can only dream of. I dunno if they'll choose to go out with the flag on top or if they'll risk it with another movie, but if they decide to stop spinning the wheel here then this would be a really satisfying finale.

This might be my favorite of the 4.

I would be comparing it to how the 2013 movie started on SXSW, but Rise is dramatically outpacing it. 2013 started with pretty good reviews while this is starting with flat out great reviews.

And a very positive review on Polygon as well as a B+ on Indiewire. This is doing gangbusters on big publications. EDIT: and the Wrap.

Spielberg's West Side Story > Wise/Robbins' West Side Story. Some of the most spectacular filmmaking of the last few years.

At this point Quantumania was at 65% with a 6.0/10 average rating.

Uhm, well I guess it went up to 43 reviews now. But yet again no movement either up or down for the percentage and average rating.

I have no idea how this is still a major issue with every single embargo drop. I feel like I even have some distant memory of a time when it wasn't this bad, but these days that feels like fantasy. The only actual update I can gather just came up on the movie's page, 40 reviews now compared to the 27 earlier.

I have no idea if this is the latest update or if Rottentomatoes is fucking up again and showing an early score, but it just appeared on the front page.

This average rating right out of the gate doesn't bode very well.

Yeah, that's what the 65 on Critics' Choice is reflecting. I'm asking you to check other movies on Critics Choice and compare them to their Rottentomatoes scores. 65 never means 65% on RT or even a 6.5 average rating. Eternals has a 61, Black Adam has a 66. If you're in the 60s, then most often you'll find the movie is rotten on RT.
