  1. JUNE 01-03 WEEKEND. DEADPOOL 2 STAYS ON TOP FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE WEEKEND AND SOLO KEEPS SYNC WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD.

    Deadpool 2

    - Already passed first Deadpool as highest grosser of X-Men franchise.

    - Over 20% ahead of first Deadpool at the same point of release. Should cross $400M between next sunday and monday and then add $15M-$25M more.

    Overboard

    - Incredible hold. Four weeks in a row at the Top 3!

    - Is going to pass Black Panther soon as 2nd highest grosser of the year (so far) and is locked to be in the Top 5 when it (the year) finishes.

    Solo: A Star Wars Story

    - Leave that drop, is more remarkable to notice that weekdays were beyond awful, this one isn't picking up and is going barely o/u $100M, terrible legs.

    Avengers: Infinity War

    - Just grossing for sport.

    # MOVIE WEEKEND % CHANGE TOTAL (MXN) TOTAL (USD) ADM. TOTAL ADM.

  2. A few news...

    • Incredibles 2 was screened this past wednesday to local press and a small group of fans. Brad Bird and John Walker were present and held a Q&A session with fans. There was also a junket and all were required to sign NDAs. Tickets go on sale this friday.
    • Tickets for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom go on sale tomorrow (Mon). It'll start with the 4-Day weekend summer period.

  3. MAY 25-27 WEEKEND. DEADPOOL 2 REMAINS AS NO. 1 WHILE SOLO FAILS AND INFINITY WAR BENEFITS.

    Deadpool 2

    - 21.69% over first Deadpool at the same point of release. If continues with same percentage then finishes between $425M-$430M.

    - Internal multi of weekend was bigger than expected, maybe after Solo's underperformance and Champions League match. First Deadpool had big competition on Zootopia but this time is different so might find a way to go higher in the end range.

    - Should finish as 2nd highest grossing B-15 rated title of all-time just behind It.

    Solo: A Star Wars Story

    - On par with estimates, a low opening and rare level of front-loadness even for a Star Wars title which already show not-impressive internal legs.

    - Should end between $120M-$130M, a not so bad 40%+ drop from Rogue One, but considering Rogue One did just decently this isn't much remarkable.

    - Weakness on screens too, opened barely in 2,800 screens compared to 4,200+ from TFA, RO and TLJ

    Overboard

    - Great hold, already passed Latin Lover's total gross and soon should be 3rd movie of the year to sell over 10M admissions.

    Avengers: Infinity War

    - Said many times but yes: biggest movie of all-time. Great legs on Fri-Total weekend results, good sign for late legs.

    - With Solo's underperformance may get a re-release on IMAX and 4D locations, specially when they aren't bussy until Incredibles 2

Oyes @Carlangonz I need to update this list  Besides IW, BP and perhaps Overboard, which one is missing/old? Do you have the data? Thanks!!!

"Oyes" hahaha, that was a cool one

The only missing is Jumanji ($365.5M). Some of the list are off only by a few thousands, don't know if you want those too.

Solo opened with a horrible $2.5M. The force is not strong with this one...

Awful. That level of front-loadness is practically impossible unless you have an event between hands and this definitely isn't one of them. Terrible sign for the run, is going to gross half the total of Shape of Water and maybe gross half the total of Rogue One.

    I2 OD > Twice Solo's OW

  6. In other news...

Deadpool 2 won the top spot on its second friday going over Solo, but they're neck-and-neck so far. DP2 zooms a $60M-$65M 2nd weekend and Solo looks at $57M-$62M, i'm expecting Solo be more back-loaded than previous SW titles, although i can't use them as comps since all three of them (TFA, RO and TLJ) opened on thu and had 4-Day openings.

Overboard and Infinity War are coming behind with $35M and $10M estimated weekend respectively

  8. Solo's midnights are embarrassing, such an awful decision. Is also getting way less screens than i thought, maybe 2,200-2,500, very low for a blockbuster, my local VIP has the same amount of shows than DP2, Overboard and... Book Club!

In other things, if I2 can open with $140M+ in the US then i think here it can aim to be highest Pixar opening with $200M+ ($10M+ USD). I want to dream with it surpassing Minions record but that's a long stretch, PS will tell us if have the chance.

What will that mean for Incredibles 2 run in Mexico since it is those two genres combined into that movie?

I'm really curious about it. I've said before around here that besides Toy Story is the best aged animation in the country, mostly due to that superhero boom the recent years and buzz is really strong right now, teaser is the only one along with IW's trailer that surpasses 1M reactions on a FB spanish-speaking Latam page and spots and ads are starting very early to create even more awareness. @Purple Minion and i keep expectations on par with other Pixar sequels like MU and Dory ($20M-$25M) but i think it has everything to go for $30M+ USD.

  10. This thursday Infinity War is poised to dethrone Coco as highest grossing movie ever. Coco's reign only lasted six months and nine days and as surprising as it seems it isn't the shorter reign in the all-time top, that record goes to Avatar which held the No. 1 position for four months and a half before was beaten by Toy Story 3.

Understandable things given the country is a fast-growing market but anyway a fun fact to share.

  11. MAY 18-20 WEEKEND. DEADPOOL 2: BIGGEST MAY OPENING AND SECOND HIGHEST OW FOR A B-15. INFINITY WAR ABOUT TO BECOME HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIE EVER.

    Deadpool 2

Highest OW for a May opener beating Overboard's $162M from past weekend. Second for a B-15 title behind last fall's It ($183.4M).

    - +21.66% from first Deadpool and +7.73% from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

    - Isn't looking at much competition, it's playing at over 4,000 screens and should reduce about 1,500 this friday because Solo. Should easily pass first Pool and Conjuring 2 as 2nd highest B-15 grosser ever with $425M+

    Overboard

    - Well, isn't holding like Latin Lover but it's still 26% ahead of it at the same point of release and $500M keep safe.

    Avengers: Infinity War

    - This thursday, after 28 days of release will become the highest grossing movie ever in lc passing Coco and tomorrow (wednesday) should beat it in USD, although in USD is still behind Avengers and Toy Story 3. Still have $20M-$25M left in the tank.
