  1. Amy Schumer has pretty much made a career out of bashing conservatives/political humor. The white working class people she hates don't have their opinions broadcast on TV or written about in magazines so they downvote her movies. So what?
  2. Would box office have been different if the movie was "Love, Andrea" and was about lesbians? The quality and reviews would be the same.
  3. You talk about I Can Only Imagine preaching to the choir? Are there any characters in Love Simon that disagree with his lifestyle in a non-movie-mustache-twirling-villain way? Parents, siblings, classmates? From what I've read, the movie is preaching to the gay choir. Both films seem to be unrealistic, imo. Haven't seen either and don't plan to
  4. I was pretty sure when Kimmel made some joke about VP Pence that ratings would be in the toilet. All the subjects in Hollywood to poke at and mock and he chooses Pence? Was there a single joke at any Democrat's expense?
  5. She still hasn't been better than she was in Winter's Bone. I really preferred her more natural acting style there. She was embarrassingly hammy and overacted in American Hustle, imo.
  6. It's always interesting to watch people coming out of a movie and see what their reactions are. Last night, the crowd coming out of Red Sparrow just seemed to hate the thing. "Too long" and "boring" were heard numerous times. Annihilation (which is what I saw and liked more than I expected to) had mostly puzzled reactions but some positive comments, too.
  7. Really? Why would she turn either of those parts down? She's usually good no matter what movie she's in. Only in Sherlock Holmes did she seem uncomfortable and out of place.
  8. Saw on the Today Show this morning that JL took the mic on an airplane and tried to be funny, but it came across as more obnoxious than anything else. I guess this is the 2018 version of her playing the "I'm just a regular person like you" game, now that her tripping on her gown has grown old.
  9. I'd be thrilled if this is as good as The Witch. But I'm really hoping this isn't another Babadook or It Comes At Night, where there's absolutely nothing scary in the entire film and nothing really supernatural going on.
  10. Nice to see Darkest Hour and I, Tonya doing well. Saw I, Tonya on Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised. Did Harding really sell the rights to this for 1500 bucks?
  11. Ronan will win but she was much better in Brooklyn, imo.
  12. That she was the main star in? The awful Miss Sloane could not not bombed any harder.
  13. Do audiences dislike Jessica Chastain? She's really shrill on twitter and always bitching about politics and seems full of herself in interviews.
  14. Greatest acting? Hamill was good, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver improved, but you also had an amateurish performance from Kelly Marie Tran and phoned-in, wooden performances from Oscar Issac and Laura Dern. Poor Carrie Fischer could barely recite her lines. Do agree about the great cinematography, though.
  15. That's actually the best thing about the movie. Too much of it is just a hammer-to-the-head unsubtle social justice screed. The gay neighbor is just like the lonely monster, lol. Give me a break.
  16. Was amazed the awful subplot in TLJ only lasted 11 minutes. I would have guessed at least half an hour. And people hate Rose because the character so clearly exists for no reason other than to check a diversity box. The girl playing her can't act to save her life and the subplot drags down the entire movie by interrupting far more interesting scenes and disrupting the flow of the film. Take away that subplot and take away the glaring "comedy" misfires (prank phone call) and this becomes a much better movie.
  17. Those old Davey and Goliath shows on Sunday morning were more interesting than Mother.
  18. Calling people names is such a persuasive way to get them to see a film.
