  1. Yes Also, Please try not to call people idiots when expressing your opinions. That seems a little extreme. Thank you!
  2. Too logical. Get out, Grandpa. I actually think this is An interesting point for discussion. Because as someone that basically exclusively watches ad free streaming services, or TCM, I don’t remember the last time that I have watched a commercial. I think maybe I suffered through it for Leverage: Redemption but that’s it.
  3. Since we're not going to get new numbers for several hours, now might be a cool time to come watch a movie with the Film Club! Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5423825182?pwd=T1VuUmJ5OVB1ZjRNQmNHRVpDQ3lkUT09 Meeting ID: 542 382 5182 Passcode: BOT We're doing CHLOE ZHAO'S THE RIDER -- because: 1. Zhao Power. Watch it and be as hyped as I am for Eternals. 2. More Importantly: Today is the Deadline for @The Panda's Top 50 Westerns List. So, watch our movie, and make your list, and send it over to Panda by midnight. And then by then more numbers should be in, and we can go back to dooms day prepping!
  4. MONDAY WEDNESDAY SATURDAY Our journey ends today Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5423825182?pwd=T1VuUmJ5OVB1ZjRNQmNHRVpDQ3lkUT09 Meeting ID: 542 382 5182 Passcode: BOT
  5. I think this is not really a controversial take. Because during that time Marvel Studios was entering their Phase 3. So you had anywhere from 8 to 10 years of build up to these final installments. There’s no way in hell that you’re going to go back to that frenzy immediately with a bunch of new characters. It’s going to take time. And maybe it will never happen again. Or maybe it will take a decade. Like for Shang Chi I think 50M-65M would’ve happened outside of the pandemic, maybe as high as 75. So I think anything around 50 right now in this current climate would be a win.
  6. My only real concern is this causes the industry to needless panic which causes the conglomerates to send everything to streaming or try to rearrange the schedule. That’s the last thing we need.
  7. I kind of stopped fiddling with the list and just sent it in last night. But it was kind of bothering me that I only had eight of the 10, so it might go on
  8. Speaking as the ADMIN here, NO ONE ANSWER THIS. Seriously. N I R D It's a fanboy movie, and we don't have any new numbers yet. Of course there's going to be some fanboy stuff to pass the time. And so far it's been harmless. Hopefully we can keep it harmless!
  9. I had an absolute blast with this, and I want to thank everyone in the Film Club ( @4815162342 @Jake Gittes @Nerfy @Fancyarcher @Rorschach @Alpha @Eric Quinn @DAR @Plain Old Tele ) for going on this odyssey. We watched some cool flicks! I also feel like I watched at least 40 movies this month just to come back to the same stupid comment at the start of this: "So I'm going to make a list of John Ford films." I think what I keep coming back to with Ford is a quote that Marty said about Ethan Edwards: "He's a poet of hate." Ford's films are violent, and brutal, and challenging, and difficult -- yet there's such this contradictory sentimental humanist/populist streak in their core that that feel at odds with the films darker instincts, thus feel compelling and dangerous. And sometimes it feels like, whether due to the Hays Code or his Personal Limitations, he slips the knife into your stomach, but he won't turn it for the death blow. So there's always stuff you can comb through on a second showing. Also, his fucking cinematography. My God, his eye. So my list ended up: 1. The Searchers 2. Stagecoach 3. My Darling Clementine 4. Fort Apache 5. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 6. Sergeant Rutledge 7. Cheyenne Autumn 8. She Wore A Yellow Ribbon 9. High Noon 10. The Wild Bunch 11. Blazing Saddles 12. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid 13. The Big Country 14. The Rider 15. Unforgiven 16. Tombstone 17. Desperado 18. Johnny Guitar 19. McCabe and Mrs Miller 20. Once Upon A Time In The West 21. Red River 22. Oklahoma! 23. The Ox-Bow Incident 24. The Magnificent Seven 25. Young Guns 26. A Fistful of Dollars 27. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 28. A Few More Dollars 29. Brokeback Mountain 30. Buck and The Preacher 31. Geronimo: An American Legend 32. Maverick 33. 3:10 to Yuma (2007) 34. True Grit (2010) 35. Rio Grande 36. How The West Was Won 37. McLintock! 38. One Eyed Jacks 39. Pale Rider 40. Ride The High Country 41. Roster Cogburn 42. Seven Samurai 43. Shane 44. The Shootist 45. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 46. The Great Train Robbery 47. The Treasure of Sierra Madre 48. The Westerner 49. Yojimbo 50. Wild Wild West And thanks to @TalismanRing for reminding me that the list is ranked by posts, so that saved me about 3 hours of agonizing over what order to rank things. L O L.
  10. I fully understand that sometimes as I fangirl, I don't quite comprehend what drives fanboy's behavior, but... I don't quite get why DC hardcores will attend the movie and then bomb the reviews? If you're hardcore, you generally are a fan; and if not, why are you going to a theater anyway when you can just sit home, watch it on HBO Max, and then complain at home?! I also will respectfully disagree, cause I thought the Deadpool series were far more tonal consistent and focused compared to this film. And I wasn't that big a fan of either of DP or DPII (Though made props to Ashes. Great song). And again, to sound like a broken record, but if I was going to see this film for Harley, I would be giving it a B+/C!
  11. I don't know. I think a B+ checks out. ETA: And I doubt the people who were bombing RT actually went to a movie theater to answer CinemaScore's questions.
  12. clearly a individual like myself that, a, has a flare for the dramatic, and b, is so fucking tired, man. So tired. I saw my fair lady before Covid, and they did a five minute intermission. And it was perfect. It was just enough time to run to the bathroom and then come back. Yes! This! And I think that once the fanboy weekend rush ebbs, there’s going to be a couple factors working against this film From a box office point of view: 1. The film is rated R. And it’s clearly targeted to teenage boys. If Delta Variant is worrying parents, that probably means they’re not taking their kids to see this movie. Luckily though, the kids can watch it on HBO Max! 2. I still maintain that this movie is incredibly male and did not see much crossover appeal for femmes. Who tend to come out more after opening weekend, since they’re less concerned about spoilers, and more Concerned about when we can all get together to see it. Or, again, I can just fast forward through things if I watch it on HBO Max.
  13. But seriously, I think Harley Quinn fans are going to feel like a bait and switch watching this. And I would not underestimate her fangirls. They are dedicated, and they spend money.
  14. You can’t say that, they might accuse you of starting a fanboy war! Which is crazy, because I don’t engage in those. I’m a fan girl. 😘😘😘
  15. This feels like you’re reading too much into things. It doesn’t really make a lot of sense to change things right now. I think it would just upset the theater owners, the talent, and the creative team more by doing that. Plus it’s pretty late in the game to change all the advertising.
  16. Oof. Big nope. I am sure that the target demographic, teenage males, will eat this up. There are definitely some fun parts of it. But I do not see a lot of cross demographic appeal to this movie. Particularly because it’s already up for free on HBO Max.
  17. MODERATION: Hi, everyone. It’s 6 o’clock in the morning. I have not gone to bed yet. And I am tired. And I know it’s going to be a very long weekend. Here is the new rule. This thread is for numbers and data. Please post your theater updates. Please post your comparable data. And please talk about that comparable data here. If you wish to do a deep dive on why you think that data might or might not suck, then take it to the respective thread of the movie in question. The quote button is your friend. That way hopefully we can not clutter up this thread, and then people can continue to have whatever discussion they want freely elsewhere. Thank you.
