  1. What a weird thing for someone to say. Agents of shield is a big success, both quality and in terms of running for 6+ seasons. Agent Carter got cancelled pretty fast, reasonable to say it was a failure. Daredevil has excellent critical reception, 3rd season incoming, no sign of stopping, clear success. Jessica Jones has solid critical reception, 3rd season incoming, no sign of stopping, clear success. Luke Cage has good critical reception, every indication of more seasons to come, clear success. Iron Fist did get a second season, but the first was pretty meh, wouldn't quibble with calling it a failure. Defenders also perhaps fair to call a failure. Punisher had controversial critical reception to some degree thanks to the subject matter, but pretty well liked, getting more seasons, etc. Pretty hard to spin as a failure. Runaways and Cloak and Dagger are both getting second seasons, medium quality, not spectacular viewership but not disastrous either. So maybe 3/10 MCU shows could be called failures, or 5/10 if you wanted to be really harsh and stretch things. On the other hand, 0/0 DCEU TV shows are failures, so I guess you could try to spin that as a 100% success rate :p Edit: LOL, also there's the one show so bad I'd completely wiped it from my mind, Inhumans. So 4/11.
  2. Around 1.5 Opening week multi is pretty common
  3. Yeah, partially schoolday weeks are starting to show their effect. Pretty nice hold for Incredibles 2. Think we’re looking at MI6>AM&tW>Solo still, but clustered a lot tighter than I would have guessed a week ago.
  4. Exactly. Gotg2 was okay because gotg1 way overperformed to begin with. Conversely, I only felt like AM1’s 520 was acceptable because it gave AM2 a good chance at 700+. We’re now far enough in to the run that I can definitively say this has been a disappointment for me DOM and WW, though not an outright failure in a financial sense.
  5. I agree that IX and TLK could both miss, but it would not be particularly surprising to most people if they made it. But of 9 600+ grosses, at least 6 were huge surprises. Put another way, we’ve averaged nearly one surprise 600M hit per year in the past half dozen years. My point is that 2019 would only need one of those to have a decent shot at the record.
  6. Maybe 255-260 from current OS markets. ~15 Italy+Portugal+Japan, call it 270 there. 220 from DOM is 490. Would only need to beat the original by 5M in China for 600. Needs to beat it by like 15M to get the MCU to 4B this year though.
  7. I've literally never encountered this idea that we should somehow credit Venom with the success of Spider-Man 3. It's absolutely bonkers. Spider-Man 2 was elevated by its villain, and Spider-Man 3's numbers are down a lot to Spider-Man 2. Venom was part of what caused the movie to have bad legs, he's not a big draw even in a movie with spider, let alone one without.
  8. That’s JW 😛 I was able to manuever from there to the daily chart for IW though. IIRC its final 2389m yuan translated to something like 359 with the end of run ER but 377 applying exchange rates as the money came in?
  9. Some big drops today, would be cool to see AM&TW pass Equalizer.
  10. IW’s extension is completely over now, right? If someone could provide the final weekly totals in yuan and USD (or point me toward them) it would be greatly appreciated.
  11. No. Please refer to the updated title, “Disney princesses break the internet.”
  12. And the Disney TCs, which it looks like weren’t provided at that time: > NO CHANGE 3 2 Disney's Christopher Robin Buena Vista 3,602 - - - - - - 2 > DECLINING 11 10 Ant-Man and the Wasp Buena Vista 1,863 -370 -16.6% - - - - 6 12 12 Incredibles 2 Buena Vista 1,545 -257 -14.3% - - - - 9 23 25 Avengers: Infinity War Buena Vista 172 -33 -16.1% - - - - 16 24 28 Solo: A Star Wars Story Buena Vista 170 -30 -15.0% - - - - 12 AM&TW % TC drop right on line with SMH.
  13. Incredible. Will Black Panther become only the third movie in history to ever pass 700.1, or will it fall tragically just short?
  14. “Softer than normal Thursday drop” as in “42% Thursday increase” 😛
  15. Well, I posted my target before I knew the number. So it was really funny to see my comment loading in with the actual number apparently having been released while I wrote it and sitting right above.
  16. EXCLUSIVE: My sources confirm that writing is ongoing on the next James Gunn EXCLUSIVE. Though final details have not yet been locked in, the shape of the emerging article is now clear — it will be filled with anonymous rumors, confirm nothing, and probably reverse whatever the immediately prior EXCLUSIVE said.
