He’s saying that several hours ago, he posted the picture of the astronaut high above the world, and the accompanying caption, over in the Brazil thread. It implied that the Brazil Opening weekend record (OWe) would be amazing, and with 6 more hours of data that is looking even more true. Fullbuster having 6 kittens is another indication of how amazing the numbers are. Even if Sunday in Brazil was awful, it would still lead to an amazing weekend number there measured in local currency ($r), US dollars, and admissions.

#1 records in terms of Holy Grailness: Avatar WW 2.8B TFA DOM 935M TFA DOM OW 248M. Was always going to be the first to fall, imo. Waited less than 2.5 years, but Avatar will wait for over a decade and TFA’s DOM total seems equally unassailable in the near future.

106.7 81.3 (being a little pessimistic here) 61 (-25%, Still pessimistic) Is still 249 and a new record. Use Disney’s OD figure, the lower end Sat, and the moderate drop and it’s still above TFA with 248.3. Better chance now to go over 250 than under TFA, it seems.

Btw, don’t want to beat this horse too much, but the very real possibility of this finish is what made 225 a dissapointing figure.

Despite being a 3-movie sub-studio, Marvel Studios may well close the year out with a DOM and WW Numbers above most (is all possible? I haven’t even considered the possibility before) other full size studios — including non-Marvel Disney.

Throwback to 2 days ago when the forecast was a 5.77 internal multiplier. Now we’re looking at 6.4. Marvel don’t frontload.

It is absolutely true that OW record breakers tend to have good legs. There are exactly two OW record breakers that have had sub 3x legs in the past 45 years or so. Now obviously something from the 80s is not really a useful comparison — the nature of cinema and personal entertainment have simply changed, and multi aren’t what they once were. But if you go back to Batman Forever as the first to crack 50 (starting the CBM multiple of 50 tradition) 9/11 OW record breakers are over 3x legs. Even choosing the least favorable historical period possible, starting from Spider-Man 3, and 4/6 record breakers have 3x+ legs. There are exceptions, and reasons to expect IW will be an exception, but the tendency for OW record setters to leg better than 3x is very plainly there in the data.

You could offer him full creative control and hiring power over Star Wars and I don’t think he’d take more than 5 minutes to turn it down. Man is exactly where he wants to be.

Now this is messed up. Star Wars has the presales, but Marvel is the true weekend monster.

Oh my goodness, thank you. The MCU has been great, but Winter Soldier ending things in a way that Ultron couldn’t do the Banner/Widow stuff is one of the best changes you could make. The only woman Steve has had decent chemistry with after 1950 and they botched things up a year later.

When you beat the adjusted single day record I imagine that will be true for a lot of theaters

Holy Frikkin Christ. As a Marvel fanboy I had high hopes for this movie financially, but this weekend is starting to become simply unbelievable.

The ghost of lordmandeep is reporting TA-like business in Canada and expectations of 75M+

80M would require a 61-62M Sunday depending on OD actuals, could be reached even with a 23% Sun drop. EZ I’m expecting more like a 76 Sat, needing a 65-66 Sun, 13% to 14.5% drop allowed. That is a near miss imo, but still in play.
