  1. Without reading the article, does he mean that the MCU has shied away from tackling romance in their movies? If so, then with the exception of CM, I can’t say I agree with that sentiment. With that said, I do wonder if the decision to not give Captain Marvel a love interest was partially done because they were worried that if they had her hook up with a man, it would diminish the idea that she’s a strong and independent character, while if they had her hook up with a woman, it would hurt the film’s chances in China.
  2. It went without saying that the film wouldn’t be able to match the domestic gross of its predecessor, but not many were expecting it to have trouble cracking $100 million. On the plus side, it looks like people are no longer freaking out about Shazam! and Detective Pikachu not doing gangbusters.
  3. I was under the impression that the CW shows were on their last legs? Why would newer shows be cancelled in favor of them?
  4. Don’t those movies both only have $6 million production budgets? If so, I don’t think either of them would be considered a loss.
  5. I can only assume that next week will be another underwhelming weekend at the box office. 2019 sure has been an interesting year at the box office so far.
  6. Looks like I was wrong in my assessment that The Secret Life of Pets 2 would be the biggest non-Disney/non-Marvel film of the year. I’m somewhat relieved by that, but at the same time, it really does reinforce the fact that no studio other than that damn mouse has been able to leave any kind of mark at the box office this year. The question is, just how much of the market share will Disney own by the end of the year, and how long will it be until they potentially monopolize the entire entertainment industry?
  7. Does it matter at this point? The film has already made a crazy amount of money.
  8. I know that virtually every big movie has reshoots (except for the stuff done by Chris Nolan, apparently), but generally speaking, when you do extensive reshoots for a film, that’s often not the best sign. It didn’t exactly work out for Fant4stic or Justice League. Sure, you could argue that those films were unsalvageable, but pouring more money into them didn’t do any favors. The only fairly recent example I can think of where a movie “benefitted” from extensive reshoots was Rogue One, and I personally thought that film was nothing more than boring fan service.
  9. Considering that this movie is already done filming, if it’s going to move, that would suggest that they’re going to be doing some expansive reshoots, and I don’t know if that’d be the best idea. This movie is looking like a gamble as is. Do they really want to pour more money into it?
  10. They already have a separate streaming service specifically for DC content. It’s called DC Universe.
  11. Doesn’t HBO have a lot of third party content, though? Isn’t the streaming service that Warner Media plans on launching going to exclusively consist of the stuff that WB owns?
  12. Unfortunately, not all of us are made out of money. Some of us won’t be able to afford to be subscribed to all these different streaming services, and having to pick and choose is going to be really annoying. Besides, does Warner Media even have enough content to justify such an expensive service?
  13. Disney+ is going to have original content as well, but that’s going to cost less than half what Warner Media plans on charging, and as I said before, they also have much more financially viable content. That is just insane. I seriously hate how every company is trying to have their own streaming service. The appeal of Netflix was that they were theoretically supposed to provide a wide variety of content to choose from without forcing people to sit through a bunch of commercials. If every company has their own streaming service, that means people will need to be subscribed to multiple different services just to have a remotely decent selection of content to pick from.
  14. $17 a month? Why would anyone pay for that? Even Disney+ is only going to be charging $7.00 a month, and they have much more popular content than Warner Media does. This is stupid.
  15. Ugh. I keep forgetting that Warner Media is trying to start another streaming service. I don’t even understand the point of that. Isn’t HBO Go already a streaming service? Furthermore, why even make a streaming service that’s specifically dedicated to DC content if they’re just going to make a streaming service for all their properties?
  16. No, really, what? That trailer from last year wasn’t even a good representation of the show.
  17. I mean, even the first movie had some pretty colorful posters. Of course, so did Suicide Squad...
  18. I’ve said this already, but I guess it bears repeating once more. The reason Black Panther is seen as culturally significant isn’t that it stars a black man, but that it’s a big budget Hollywood blockbuster featuring a cast that’s almost entirely comprised of black people. Sure, there have been big movies in the past with black people in major roles (hell, Suicide Squad was one of them), but a big budget movie that revolves almost exclusively around black people, and that doesn’t feature black people living in poverty or being oppressed by white people, is a pretty significant milestone for Hollywood. For the record, I certainly didn’t think the movie itself was Best Picture material, but it’s not hard to see why people made such a big deal out of it.
