I’ll admit, when I initially heard about that embargo, I was convinced this movie would end up as a stinker from a critical standpoint, but at this point, I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a similar score to BatB and CR. I still have no interest in seeing it, but if BatB managed to get decent reviews, I suppose this doing the same wouldn’t be especially surprising. Of course, if that happens, I fully expect TLK to land somewhere in the 90% range.

Not exactly. The movie was originally scheduled for December 2019, before Star Wars forced them to move it up to November 2019. Then, out of nowhere, they announced that they were moving the film all the way back to June 2020, which I assume was to give them more time in post production, and to avoid being released too close to Frozen 2.

In the case of Gal Gadot, there was definitely a lot of skepticism. She had more skeptics than Ben Affleck. The complaints ranged from her being too skinny to play Wonder Woman, to her accent being too thick, to her being a model and not a “true” actress. Even after BvS came out, there were still a number of people who were unimpressed by her performance, such as the guys over at Red Letter Media. It wasn’t until her own film came out that the vast majority of skeptics were won over.

The DCAU did a Justice League show without having properly introduced most of its members. Really, the only established characters in the DCAU by that point were Batman and Superman. The Flash had been in a single episode of S:TAS, beforehand, but he wasn’t exactly a fully realized character. Not having six or seven solo movies before the Justice League movie wasn’t the problem.

As I said, I think it’s the DH2 effect. People were in a rush to see the movie due to the finale angle, as well as the cliffhanger in IW, and as a result, the movie’s legs have taken a hit. It doesn’t really matter, though. The movie is still making a crazy amount of money, and Disney would have to be crazy to not be satisfied by it.

I guess if there’s one key takeaway from this, it’s that a trailer getting a million likes on YouTube doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. Oh well. So much for Pokémon being the next big movie franchise. I guess superhero movies (the MCU to be specific) will continue to be the dominant genre for a while.

I predicted about a month or two ago that Endgame would suffer the DH2 effect, where it would be a critically acclaimed film that would nonetheless be very front loaded. Looks like I was on to something, given that the movie is now falling behind TFA, despite having a significantly (and I do mean significantly) higher OW. They called me a mad man...

The thing is, even though the New 52 made some effort in giving the character her own identity and independence, people still complained about how sexist those comics were for giving her skimpy outfits. These people don’t seem to realize that Harley Quinn was literally conceived for no reason other than to move a cake, but regardless, that just goes to show that there is no winning with Harley Quinn. Her backstory is intrinsically tied to her being the Joker’s submissive trophy wife. If Batman: The Animated Series had been written today, I’m pretty sure Bruce Timm and Paul Dini would be rightfully called out for creating a character like Harley Quinn. People just have nostalgia goggles when it comes to the DCAU.
