People who say this will flop are in for a huge surprise. The MCU is hotter than ever, female superhero films are no longer CBMs' red-headed stepchild, as evidenced by the financial success of Captain Marvel and the financial/critical success of Wonder Woman. ScarJo in the right action vehicle can certainly draw crowds (remember how Lucy killed?) And Black Widow is an audience favorite that has a cinematic narrative that is perfect to create anticipation and build buzz for a solo adventure. I can totally see Marvel Studios creating a fantastic marketing strategy that emphasizes how much it is about fucking time we got a BW film. I could be wrong, but if they play their cards right, Marvel will have a smashing winner in Black Widow (and I say this as someone who doesn't even care about the character that much!)

LOL If this weren't an MCU-centric weekend, there would not be all these excuses to justify the decreasing numbers. The narrative would be "Look, the WOM is not as amazing as we all believed."

This went from a surefire flop and future joke to a surefire hit and likely billion-dollar grosser in the blink of a solid trailer (and thanks to an iconic song). Good job, Disney!

Worldwide, absolutely. Domestic...maybe, but not a lock.

I am always happy when a film proves its detractors wrong (you know, the people who have only watched a trailer and decide that the film is going to be awful and flop). And I am always happy when a film that looks great (yes, I thought the trailers looked awesome) ends up being great.

So it will have the typical MCU 50-55 % second-week drop. I don't understand what made some people think this would have a Wonder Woman/Black Panther-like second frame decrease, when it is quite evident that the actual word of mouth for CM is ok, not spectacular like those other two films.

Did Ezra come out as non-binary? I thought that he identified as a cis gay male...

I have learned to understand that 99 % of Futurist's posts are made of 100 % troll waste. The other 1 % is him/her singing the praises of the MCU's ability to potently market mediocre films.

Yet you have no problem watching and celebrating the latest iteration of the same ole film that the Marvel Studio assembly line regurgitates every year. "A movie about a person with superpowers fighting another person with superpowers over an all-powerful whartchamacallit that will destroy the world? Another 2 hour ad for the next big superhero team up? Never seen that. Can't freaking wait."

WTF...I just found out that Raimi directed Oz The Great and Powerful. I am not kidding. I never knew/was aware of the fact that Sam Raimi directed that film. 😮

Remember when Wonder Woman was tracking at 65 million? Remember when Jurassic World was tracking at 140-150 million? Remember when Black Panther was tracking at 135-145 million?

You have no idea how he feels about Suicide Squad. Do you know him personally? Maybe he was a huge fan of the SS comics before he got the chance to do GOTG. Why do comic book fans love to talk out ff their....?

I also hope that Gunn gets some assistance with his writing of women in the third installment I agree that he is clinging to certain....um....unfortunate character choices for female characters. Especially after the triumph of Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, I truly hope that the women of GOTG are written better.

And Wonder Woman 3 will be an unoffical JL sequel with Wondy fighting Aquaman for supremacy of the DCEU, and Mera, Shazam, Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey all guesting. And of course, Atom will make its debut just so it makes it even more of a Civil War rip-off
