That's true, but I still think it's a non-problem. That's like saying budweiser is not making light beer (that's an example, I think they actually do), so the world is doomed. No, it isn't. There's Karlsberg and other companies that do make light beer. The world is just fine.
If you take movies 2-20 it's $1.512b and $1.039b respectively. But we still don't have proper numbers for EG (either it's gross, could be anything from 2680-2750, I took 2700, or yearly gross).
btw highest grossing original live-action film is Inception at place 74 (and no, Titanic - real life events and Avatar - fern gully/Pocahontas/Dancing with the Wolves - aren't original)
They are the biggest BECAUSE they are doing this. Original work isn't rewarded in current cultural climate. They are just following the money (and still it doesn't always work - Chris Robin, Alice 2...)
