After seeing the SDCC and Disney/Marvel plans going forward, yes its safe to say that they are totally all in and doubling down on the MCU with the sheer amount of Streaming and movie properties going forward. For the box office, obviously staking their claim on lots of Tentpoles for theatres in foreseeable future. Looks like 4 MCU films (not also including Sony 2 Spider Universe films), making 6 marvel properties hitting screens in 2023. Incredible really.

And here I had called for a Nope Thurs/Fri of 45 million, but 44 million for the opening weekend? I was WAYYYYY off on that one. Mind you Im still very new to figure out comping and stuff, so that was probably a big part just my lack of knowledge of how horror movies open.

I actually am also basing it on a total I don't know what the heck Im doing look at the comps Ive done so far with Canada and postulating numbers-can't wait to laugh at my failure lol

Oh look they appear on Cineplex seemingly after I did my Nope count and Super Pets Startup.....sigh.....(For the record I am NOT tracking the Tues Aug 2 specialty shows)

I have NO idea how to call this one for prediction for Canada opening. Numbers are everywhere with my limited count. Im gonna throw out 1 Million OD (Thurs/Fri) even though Im probably way off lol (I mean that's looking at a 2.5-3 mil weekend. Heck Im probably way off lol.

Interesting thought from a friend of mine when he was discussing Nope trailers-he said "Its weird, I go between really interested in seeing it to not wanting to anything to do with it back to really interested." He might be an outlier, but he's usually pretty good at having a solid opinion one way or another about how a movie trailer plays out. Have to wonder if for others its also this "uncertainty" about whether they like trailer or not.

In that context it makes a little more sense. I think I saw the Super Pets thing and Paws thing as maybe two different things and my brain doesn't always match up context and so I may have missed that inflection/suggestion. Hence why I always try and state things as being the way I understand it, as opposed to it being black white, I try to keep myself out of trouble that way

Not sure if I agree with the "Paws would put out in theatres first to show it had big film pedigree before going to streaming" idea (not a quote, merely my own interpretative paraphrasing.

Getting the feeling at least up here Nope is going to be more wom/walkup. Cineplex looks like its really going to wait till Wed to drop more friday shows-though usually the theatres I follow, most of them usually have some Friday showings, right now there's only 5 (by comparison there are my usual 20 theatre showings for Thursdays). I havent seen much previous horror type comps for Canada so I can't say if this is a regular thing for Canadians (still think IMO this should have been at very a least a mid Sept to Oct release) Something that just occurred to me, I haven't mentioned in my counts, most if not all the shows so far are IMAX only-which is really interesting, and maybe accounts (because Imax is crazy expensive up here), that might be the hesitation-people may not feel its an Imax type movie (though judging from the trailers I can certainly see why they're going Imax with the subject matter)
