  1. Looking ahead: Disney doing the stream/theatre combo for Black Widow. Needless to say, theatres aren't happy. https://www.cbr.com/black-widow-release-plans-upset-theaters/ I know back last year there was discussion on some forums like reddit that "Mulan is one thing, but no way Disney would stream Black Widow first day" Theatres can threaten to not show films, that just improves Disney's leverage with the viewer though, because that will increase more scarce viewings, leading more people to watch it on Disney Plus, which is what Disney really wants IMO.
  2. Ill be interested to see not just this film but next few films going forward. Im wondering how much of Zilla/Kong is people wanting to see if for the actual film and how many people are going out to the theatres just because they can and they're really want to experience the movie going experience they've been denied so long. I think it will be fascinating to watch to see the next few movie openings if the numbers keep consistent and/or theres a drop off as moving going becomes "normal" again (though with limited seating for the forseeable future I certainly see a lot of full screens and sellouts due to simple reduced seating.
  3. Just following up with a depressing bit of news, more a confirmation really. Ontario is going into full Lockdown (Lockdown 3: Chain it all down), for 4 weeks. Theatres will be shut until at least early May....at the least. I look forward to everyone else who can post numbers, as I gaze wistfully and wait until Ontario can get its act together.
  4. Fourth...we are just starting our third.....sigh....
  5. Post Pandemic (I mean we have to get there right?) is going to be such a weird time for people researching box office numbers during pandemic. Between audiences, allowed percentages, and whos all shut down, its going to be rather difficult to figure how some movies may have done in a "non pandemic" era. I have to wonder how many decisions are made on movies in an IP are based on "bad numbers" during this era. Plus with "same day streaming" options that various companies take post pandemic will muddy the waters even more. Its just all so surreal.
  6. So all these calculations you're on the verge of proving mathematically how time travel be achieved right? Its better than what Ive got....all I get to calculate is when possibly we might end our lockdowns so people can even go to the theatres!
  7. Just out of curiosity, are there any percentage restrictions where you are (are theatres being allowed 100 percent admittance or is there a restricted amount?)
  8. That is a good question. I will have to look into that. Mind you from what I am hearing we might be into another full all Ontario Lockdown in a couple of weeks. Ill have to keep an eye out. Edit: Yep, Red Zone means movie theatres are closed. So I'm guessing the Kong/Zilla (and all other movies) gets refunds for Wed/Thurs shows. To paraphrase the meme "Hey I got a computer to count seats for movies..... andddddd the theatres are gone" Im wont disappear again though LOL. Ill just add comments onto other posts and contribute and hopefully the lockdown isnt for TOO long.... ha.....ahhah....
  9. Right so Godzilla vs Kong at London Silvercity for Wed March 31. There are 3 shows. The problem is im guessing its based on seating and distance for covid. But what I've got is: Imax 7:45 8 seats occupied, 1 Available (a total of 9?) 10:15 1 seat occupied 11 available (so 12?) 645 regular seating is "sold out" (I'm thinking 11 seats sold-maybe?) Rows are halved so every other row is not even available for distance, and I'm guessing depending on sales determines which seats become "covid space" seats. Im really new to this covid figuring out. Have to dig further to see what percentage Cineplex is actually allowing. Edit: If they are doing 25 percent capacity, that isn't 25 percent per screen, its probably based on 25 percent for the entire building, which would definitely explain why I am seeing seating that seems to "sell out" at 20 seats, or why each screen would be varying amount of seats sold based on groups of tickets being bought in a purchase. And this is London, Ontario, Toronto isn't even opening yet, so I wonder what little numbers I can offer what if anything they represent in the grand scheme of things.
  10. So looking so far a whole lot of "Closed" for Toronto Theatres. London Ontario theatres are open (they are in the "Orange" zone, allowing theatres) but I guess unless those "non essential" in grey don't include Toronto right now. I'll have to keep an eye out to see when this changes. If nothing else I should be able to do a London Ontario for for Kong/Zilla. It won't be a huge amount, but it would be a start
  11. Thats what I have to find out. In Dec-Jan we had total lockdowns through the province, Then cities started coming back into various colored zones, where Toronto has been in "Grey" with at that point "no non essential services (theatres included), but now they're opening up non essential at 25 percent capacity. I'm going to have to scour the cineplex sites and see what is and isn't online. Im hoping that theres at least something to give for this weekend (Godzilla vs Kong opens wed I in North America I think?). Have to see if Toronto gets a piece of that.
  12. Thank you. It's been.....awhile lol. Its good to be back. Having an actual computer makes typing, editing and wow I can (attempt) to do spreadsheets now! I missed you guys and girls.
  13. So....what did I miss? Not much I hope? (Looks at thread) I've got catching up to do apparently! Ive got to get myself sorted out, been awhile. I need to find out how active the Toronto screens are. As far as Covid, they keep putting us in various coded lockdowns, however it seems even in "Grey" (heaviest lockdown) I believe they are allowing theatres at 25 percent capacity. It will take a bit of sorting but now that I have a puter (Yay!) and not posting from phone things should be easier.
  14. Hoping this week to get some Toronto numbers for next weekend. Will be a total seats/total showings format like others are doing. Hoping it works!
  15. Up here looke like cineplex is literally only showing available non blocked seating with sold seats greyed out. This actually makes it easier at a glance. Ive been unable to do counts due to something coming up this weekend. It looks like to make up for blocked seats DOUBLE amt of showtimes in theatre!😮 If this is trend going forward i may figure out a new layout ( hopefully when i get my new puter built in a couple of months ) In meantime need to adjust. Maybe just do total seats sold/total available like our philly poster😁
  16. Doing a totally unscientific informal poll around here (aka known as asking complete strangers i see or friends i know), up here in ontario there isnt a lot of comfort in the idea of theatre going when they do open theatres. Guessing our tracking will be more other countries that are opening theatres with staggered openings ( im looking at you Tenet, which in a pre covid world would represent marketing coolness with surreal opening times to tie in with film) Edit apparently cineplex is opening doors for spongebob this weekend for 137 theatres. See if we can get any numbers.
  17. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/07/28/media/universal-amc-theatres-films-release-date/index.html So this happened. And. Here. We. Go. Gotta wonder how this affects opening weekends. Its for 17 days. Opening weekend tends to be theatre devotees, so opening weekend numbers may not change. But i do wonder if this changes box office predictions based on opening weekends. If streaming within 3 weeks becomes a thing across all studios, imo the game changes for total box office earnings. apparently tentpoles will prolly get longer exclusive arrangements
  18. I too miss the box office counting and thread. Now with tenet talked about staggered releases and mulan aug 21 ( maybe?) who knows whats going on. Thank you for posting this. Seeing posts in the tracking thread made me hopeful for future days of counts and trends discussion. Oops meant as reply to eric skywalker lol. Hey some discussion again in the Prediction thread! So nice to see again!
  19. I stand corrected. Cineplex will not open its theatres even though they are able to to add to fun....cineworld being sued....pulled out of cineplex acquisition https://www.google.com/amp/s/globalnews.ca/news/7137630/cineplex-sues-cineworld/amp/
  20. Dont know if this is a big deal but ontario canada movie theatres to start opening friday. Though with the us productions keep pushing release dates i dont see how much it will change things lol
  21. Interesting the optics of "sold out" will be interesting to watch. Also if people put up with sellouts and try again or if they say "ill just wait till near end of run. Which leads to will theatres double the run of movie to accommodate the 50 percent rule. Or do people say "ill wait for streaming" . Be interesting to watch
  22. Be nice to crunch numbers again. I miss it. And getting computer soon so no more posting from phone!
  23. Bb bChecking in from great white north. Miss coming in to do numbers and talk box office. I miss you guys and gals. It will be interesting to see the first movie to have boffo box office post covid (whenever that is). Be awesome if it was a small indy film just people desperate to get bacl theatres to watch something
  24. This is so surreal to experience this. With all this and production suspensions it really reminds how many movies and series are in any given time.
